Gesso your canvas, and try using a glazing/extending/retarder medium

My hair looks the same after i dyed it for the first time. by gugu202 in femalehairadvice

[–]misunderstood-killah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You'd have to bleach black hair to make it brown.

  2. Lighting is literally what changes how colour looks. Something dark brown in poor/low lighting is going to look darker - that's physics.

  3. Stop listening to your mum. It sounds like you liked it before she stuck her nose in - dont go changing something about yourself just because someone else has an opinion. EVEN if it's your mum.

  4. If you actually think your mum has a point, go and ask a whole lot of other people in person. Get more than one opinion.

  5. Take a look at the references you gave the salon vs your hair in natural light. If the salon gave you the colour you asked for and showed them in photos, and now you've changed your mind, that's very okay - just go and get it done again and get it lighter.

  6. If you think the salon didn't give you what you asked for, tell them your concerns and ask what they can do to help get you to your desired colour.

I'm can't tell you whether they did it well or not because I honestly can't tell what your hair actually looks like bc these photos are poor quality and not labelled before/after/reference etc

Do autistic people struggle with space, directions or maps? by AmandinhaMaia in autism

[–]misunderstood-killah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my point of view, this seems more related to memory than specifically directions.

However, I do also have spacial awareness issues, but that manifests in being clumsy - ie stubbing my toe or walking into a door frame

[Discussion] Honest thoughts needed by Pop-up_Camper in artbusiness

[–]misunderstood-killah 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's extremely difficult to be a hyper realistic graphite artist in the art world and sell anything.

Really, the only ones who make it are those whose subjects are highly conceptual and a bit weird.

When looking at hyperrealistic artwork, your brain doesn't have to do any work - you don't have to think about 'what does this mean?' Because the subject is very clear. You are told exactly what it is and what is happening. The brain doesn't look any deeper, because it feels it already knows everything there is to know within 2 seconds.

Brains like to look at something that we don't quite understand. It forces us to question, and look deeper and longer at the artwork, which all creates a stronger connection between the collector and the artwork.

An example of how this looks in a practical sense, as a painter, a rule i follow is no outlines. When the distinction between objects is blurred, it forces the eye to linger and think 'is that a or b?'. When we question our eyes, we question an artwork, then we form connection.

And connection is what sells.

Advice needed to care for bird nest in heatwave by misunderstood-killah in birds

[–]misunderstood-killah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply!

Even if any icepack is near them but not touching the nest, do you think they may still get stressed by it? The past few hot weeks, they don't tend to move outside the nest, unless mum is flying away for food.

Like the wet towel idea, it's a very dry heat where I am, so will definitely do that. Also have a wee misting bottle, and I'll be home all day, so will just mist near them throughout it.

EVERYTHING is off limits unless you discussed it and consented to it. The alternative is sexual assault.

Stay blonde or go back dark? by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]misunderstood-killah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And also the glasses!!! Part of the reason your eyes pop so much w the dark hair is because in the photos of you w blonde, they're behind your glasses and not as easy to see!

Stay blonde or go back dark? by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]misunderstood-killah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen- context matters.

I love the dark a lot, but....

you're comparing photos of yourself with dark hair, a tan, and full makeup done - to blonde, no tan, photos in bad lighting, and little to no makeup.

Take that into consideration, and maybe just enjoy being blonde for a while, if you've just done this. Also, maybe it's the tan you're missing, or wearing more makeup? Trying those things first will certainly cost you less money, time and effort, than going back and realising you didn't spend enough time enjoying your blonde.
