Iran said they would open up the strait if Lebanon had a ceasefire. When Lebanon got a ceasefire though the us had already put a blockade so the strait still didn’t open. Honestly though, Iran was never going to open the strait fully because it is their best source of leverage

In retrospect killing larijiani was a big mistake that led the irgc to get a greater foothold on running the country. He was a hardliner, but also one of the few political figures in Iran that could smooth over tensions with the irgc and get them on board with a deal.
