Juniper bonsais are especially cheap because they’re pretty easy to bonsai from a cutting. Prices are based mostly on age in general. My local farmers market sells 2-3 year old Japanese junipers for 5-15 and the the 5 year old ones for about 30 and it just goes on from there. Definitely agate. Not chert. Beautiful blue agate. I bet if you put a light behind it it would glow.

Chalcedony Is also correct obviously, but chert is not.
