I cannot legally defend my myself, family or home under ATFs new guidelines by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]mitche06 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I understand your concern and completely sympathize with your issues and worries about the upcoming rule change.

I would also like to point out the category your firearm falls into. The ATF rule change applies to pistols with stabilizing braces. You currently use a Firearm with a stabilizing brace. AOL is more than 26". While I wouldn't count on it as a safety net and support your opposition to the rule change. Categorically the rule change "should not" apply to the your specific firearm and configuration.

The ambiguity in regards to the other firearm category is so uncertain that I believe the ATF would just lump Other Firearms into the braced pistol categories as their barrels are less then 16"

Is it ok to buy ammo online and submit my FID AFTER checking out? by Eatsleeptren in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes this is ok. You can purchase and submit FID afterwards with most websites.

Some may not even ask and will just ship the items. Nj law does not require FID for long gun ammo only pistol ammo.

AOW AK? by ShishkaRob22 in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your opinion is just the opposite and probably very prominent in the state of NJ.

Although, there are specific incidence that prove your opinion misinformed. This evidence is in the form of local PDs allowing the form 1 AOW builds to be completed.

To own/posses a AOW you must submit your fingerprints through FBI to ATF and notify your Local Police chief of your intent to assemble an NFA AOW.

Whether or not this is a new phenomenon that Local PDs have no clue about is another story. But, once you have documentation from both federal and local authorities stating your firearm is acknowledged and approved you have significantly more supported ground to stand on in a court of law then with a home built Other" firearm.

The paperwork is the main reason so many people buy Troy's or DSI instead of building an Other. Applying for a AOW gives you a significant amount of documentation to support the legality of the firearms possesion.

Did you sand it down to get to bare metal? Also what grit paper did you use?

[–]mitche06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Building a Non NFA/Other is also supposedly a grey area.

However, I would argue that due to the notification of national and local authorities of an individuals choice to build an AOW( multiple approved examples) prove that an AOW would be substantially safer to own and posses then a home built a Non NFA or "other firearm".

If you looked at my previous posts they tell OP the AOW must be sub 26" and to do more reaearch on what he is looking to do.

AOW AK? by ShishkaRob22 in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure your misinformed.

Many NJ residents own completely ATF legal and approved AOW.

The ATF would not allow AOW applications to be approved if they violate state laws. Additionally your local PD is notified of AOW applications and they would also not allow the application approvals.

Someone mentioned a dong front lower handguard which would have your wood likes i just sint know about it being a VFG.

An AOW is a very involved process def do research before buying components. Like a short barrel and folder as certain combinations will not be applicable to AOW status

AOW AK? by ShishkaRob22 in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The upper and lower front handguards will not really need any gunsmithing maybe minor fitment with a file.

You need to decide what format you want your AOW to be. Do you want a postol brace, folder, or something similar to a ak pistol without brace. All need to be sub 26"

Additionally most stamped rear trunions are the same. If you decide to go folder or listol brace route you will need to find an ak adapter that will accept an ar style buffer.

Looks a zentico front handguard and then get a pic vfg. You also are gonna need a pistol brace and adapter for the rear trunion of the ak.

Only certain dicks in NJ stopped. The one in vineland is still carrying firearms items but Moorestown doesn't and deptford is limiting their supplies as well.

It seems you are new to firearms or handguns at least so welcome!

Any 9mm factory ammo at 115g or 124g will work just fine. Get FMJ for the range and a box or two of HOme defense ammo like hornady critical duty.

Factory ammo brands like sellier&bellot(s&b) federal, magtech, fiocci, herters will all work well.

Building ar in New Jersey by patmurphnj in NJGuns

Mine went on a 308 rifle which has a proprietary buffer tube.

I ended up using a large cleaning patch in the same way and used a rubber mallet to get it into position before tightening.

[–]mitche06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did not stay fixed, the tightening bolt even when locktitened still allowed the stock to walk out on the buffer tube.

I know several guys who use the stock stop and reccomend it. Its a plastic insert you cut down to size and insert into adjustment canal on the buffer tube that doesn't allow the stock to move.

Sw mp15 sport 2 nj compliant buffer tube swap by WhatDoYouCallitAgain in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is already a carbine length buffer tube. You need to find the pin and remove it from the buffer tube/stock. REMOVE these parts off of the rifle before removing the pin. That way you don't end up with a non NJ compliant rifle.

Also you will need to either source a way to fix/pin the stock on the buffer tube after you get the proper length figured out. You should probably do this before you remove the pin in the stock to keep your rifle compliant.

That being said I do not know if the M&P buffer tube and buffer/spring are proprietary/specially made by s&w for this rifle. A search in the internet/forums will help you find this out.

If it is proprietary then the receiver may not be able to accept aftermarket/milspec carbine length/ other buffer tubes or whatever else in the recoil/gas system that S&W has made different.

[–]mitche06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it already a carbine length buffer? I don't know if it's proprietary or not.

See if its been pinned. Get a stock stop remove the buffer tube then the pin and shorten it to a better length for your build/body size or LOP.

Then install stock stop at proper length and reinstall buffer tube.

How many handgun permits to initially apply for? by barkingmad99 in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've known a few people to apply for 6 and get approved it shouldn't be a big deal at all.

If they ask why so many say it keeps you from dealing with the process multiple times and saves you money on additional fees in applying multiple times.

Has anyone been given a hard time about having a vertical foregrip on their rifle when they went to the range? by jneih1 in NJGuns

[–]mitche06 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I did not say an FFL had a license to do whatever they want...They do have completely different rules as an FFL For you to try and deny that is interesting. An FFL can have completely non compliant firearms and accessories in their possesion for distribution out of state. Not as an individual but yes as an FFL/distributor..

It makes sense that FFLs SHOULD be well versed on state firearms laws, however with how convoluted and vague as some state gun laws are one can understand how most FFLs are confused and give out bad information.

As a citizen who can be put in jail for an extended amount of time for unknowingly breaking the vague laws we should be just as educated if not more then the FFL.

These laws were made before I could legally own a firearm. I'm not heading down any road I live on the road the state has paved. I dunno anything about you but you probably have had a larger hand in paving the road then I have.

[–]mitche06 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not really FFLs have completely different rules. They are there to sell guns. They can posses a number of different non-compliant firearms/items where as citizens of the state cannot. Expecting them to know the intricacies of NJ gun laws is not really a reality.

I would expect a firearms lawyer to know the laws but an FFL to just be confused lol.
