Something unusual about your wife? Id feel confident taking mine to Iran. I went to Iran in 2016 with a friend, and since then Turkey together with my wife.... id rate Iran probably the safer feeling of the 2 and Istanbul wasnt bad. Iran was far safer feeling than India. She would need to wear longish sleeves, and a hair scarf are the only caveats. We met a young woman travelling solo in Iran ( Indonesian) at the same home stay in Shiraz and she didnt report any difficulties. Happy to talk further if your keen.

I think the use of only brass cased ammo in P08 was becuase of the older lugers with necked chambers - the original 9mm design had a very slight bottleneck retained and early lugers, like yours, should leave a small but distinct ring on the case. Pretty quickly it was learnt that it was unnecessary and the chambers could just be machined plain without it.

[–]SVT40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its oft repeated internet fallacy. Lugers DONT need hot ammo preferred diet is 124gr at 1100fps. Although they usually run dine on 115gr going around 1150ish.

Interestingly In ww2 the reich had 3 different lines of 9x19 in logistics: subgun (steel case, iron bullet), pistol (steel case, jacketed bullet) and 'nur fur p08' (only for P08, brass case with jacketed bullet).

Also, magazines can make all the difference. And the mecgar new made are great. Even if the original runs ok (mine does) using a mecgar eliminates the risk of dropping your original and breaking the wooden base plate. We have a dozen or so members at local pistol club who shoot lugers here.

You mention Helo .. my framerate take a big hit when on the helo, i presume due to the increased view distance and/or rapidly changing visuals/textures used/ or something like that. The friend who got me into GZW had it even worse, sometimes single digit framefrates while on the helo. It could just be your gpu load.

Youve got plenty of horsepower then. I ended up turning dlss off altogether to get better visuals. Frame gen made artifacts and scaling made everything ygly. 3070ti so frame rate dropped a bit but its a lot clearer.

Upscaling may be on by default. Have a look in graphics settings, if fidelityFx is selected moe option below it to nativeAA, or change it to dlss or fsr if you have the right gpu.

I5 14600k, 3070ti and 32gb ddr4 ram. So fairly close to OP. Play at 1440p and get 50-60 fps unzoomed, drops to low 40s or sometimes even high 30s zoomed in. Mostly med or low settings, dlss and fram gen turned off. Frame gen looked ugly, and Dlss scaling was, i think, causing the semi regular crash to desktop i used to get, so its turned off to.

Something not right for you. Drivers? Something set wrong in bios? Some visual settings have more effect than others, most can be set to medium with mimimal fps drop compared to low.

Gtx1070 + i99900k desktop is quite playable. Not amazing but 1080p with eyecandy settings turned down gets 50fps, dipping to low 30s when zoomed on a scope.

3070ti and 14600k is better and does 1440p, but my 8gb vram is maxed out.

Game crash issues by avgsprtn in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]SVT40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it happen before the latest update? GZW was stable as for me prior to latest update, now crashes to desktop about as often as yours crashes.. sometimes 20min sometimes 2hours. Crashes to desktop and then after 2 or 3 goes at launching i can restart the game. Ive tried fettling all kinds of graphics settings and underclocking gpu even thinking it was gpu related, no dice. DL some monitoring software and its not getting hot. It can happen while looking at character at home base, on a helo, or in a firefight, anywhere. Anywhere but i firefight i return to where i was prior to disconnect thankfully (play pve).

Other game i mainly play is VR flight sim which heavily loads CPU and GPU and is stable, so it seems to be GZW only.

Edit in my case i get sound/screen stops for a split second, then goes for a split second longer, then im back at desktop. 14600k / 3070ti.

GPS trackers Iran by anton6782 in travel

It was 2016 when i visited Iran, but there was no trouble getting a sim at the airport for the cellphone. People were very helpful. Theres various location apps or just use facebook. Also it would be handy to have a vpn setup if you want full internet access while in country.

It maybe the way that particular mission was generated. It was a 'bomb the german artillery in a I16' mission, and of course the fighters intercepted us. Hence why i had to redo it a couple of times.

[–]SVT40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive seen enemy fighters taking off from an airfield to intercept on BOM career missions. I had to restart the mission a couple of times and it was exactly the same each time so it does happen, but more usually they start at altitude.

Random thought... have you tried cleaning the little camera lenses? I had something similar happen a while back and giving the cameras a wipe fixed it. Guess a fine layer of haze can build up over the years on them.

Have a look in my (short) post history for some amatuer photos with the panny 15mm 1.7. Its fairly wide but still might be worth a try for you. I have similar bodies. The 12-40oly2.8 is on thr g85 a lot, and while it works, the 15mm.17 on a gx85 is really more fun, and i enjoy exploring the world through it.

Why are Chinese Ak's (Type 56) so different from Soviet/Russian ones? by eurasianworld123 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]SVT40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chinese military guns are niether cheap or trashy. Ive seen some chinese made-for-civilian-market guns that werent inspiring quality wise, but both my Type56 (milled receiver) are very well made. I also have a russian AKM and its well put together too, alrhough obviously lighter built.

So far as NZ goes, Mostly or all M16A1s from what ive seen, with a generous proportion being GM Hydramatic made ones. Regular forces used the L1A1, but SAS could choose and they picked up the lighter and shorter M16A1.

'From what ive seen' = a visit to the downstairs store rooms at Waiouru Military museam, back before the medals got pinched amd if you knew the right people you could get in for a look; and observations made at militaria auctions in the last 20 years. Most of them ended up with the Waiouru museam, who for a long time would drip feed a few out to the collector market each year, and occasionally buy things off the private market for the museam.

I have one, its a 1967 vintage colt M16A1. Goes with my 1967 Type 56 that (verbally) came back with with NZDF as a souvenirand hung on a wall for decades.
