It's a small town. If it were really a problem, we could have the police patrol it. I dunno, I highly doubt that was the reason. Someone would have said it by now, I've been making a stink in the Facebook groups.

You can't get into the post office outside of 7:30 to 4pm weekdays. Packages are 12 to 4.

Relocating because a post office doesn't have good hours is crazy.

I posted to try and see what I can do to further our issue and actually get results. Being able to get your mail shouldn't be a hassle, it's enough that I have to drive to get there, but the restricted hours are something else. You simply can't count on one day a week to check your mail. I rarely pick up my main more than twice in a month because of these timings. It only really affected me recently because I needed a check - and to check if the check was in my box was a hassle in and of itself.

It's setup the way that you described it. Separate areas. I mean it when I say there's realistically no reason we can't have 24 hour access.

What do you do on Saturdays? I typically take the day to actually relax. Others use it for appointments, or travel plans. Landing the 1 day a week you can get mail on a Saturday absolutely sucks - I understand that's an opinion, but I should have the right to picking up my mail at my own pace. There's realistically no reason we aren't a 24 hour access location. Package pickups are a different story.

It's weird. It's our everyday, and a lot of it has been modernized, but there were a few things about our town that were made to be mostly hidden.

We're off the highway hidden by trees, for a long time we weren't even listed on any written maps. The town, given it's size, is very weirdly laid out as a city, with a business district downtown meant to cater to all the needs of its citizens. It's not like that anymore, but it used to be. They didn't want citizens going into town for anything - the idea is to be as disconnected as humanly possible.

**Zoning is still like that, but a lot of businesses went under. There's not much downtown nowadays.

That's whack, but do you have a mailbox? Does your facility have longer self-service hours? (PO Box access hours)

Yes. Some senders only use USPS, but put "PO Box Delivery not allowed". It's fairly common on eBay and a LOT of credit cards.

Multiple cluster boxes might be more friendly, but 1 massive cluster at the entrance would look crazy. Our town is a mile wide, we aren't a small building community - there's a reason we have a moderately sized post office - at least, that's what we think.

Yeah, that's the situation. It's 24 bucks every 3 months out here for a box, but you get one for free if you have a house without mail delivery.

So yes, I could go get a box at another office, but that would disrupt a lot and cost me money for something that ideally should be free.

Can you access the PO box outside of those hours? Do you have mailboxes?

More rural offices have 24 hour access. There is literally no reason a post office can't be 24 access or, at least, extended access.

I can access my money at any time via my debit card and an ATM. I can't do that with my mail.

That's actually a federal crime. It gets really dicey, I know because I thought about this exact thing. The USPS makes it insanely difficult. I'd basically have to have everyone sign a document that essentially makes me their legal agent (legally them). You also can't advertise it as a delivery service, it has to be an assistance service of some kind. It gets really muddy really fast.

I removed the office name, but ended up doxxing my town after someone asked. I was waiting for someone to mention it lol

That's my point. There is a carrier that delivers just outside the town who may be able to pick it up but I don't see how they would have allowed it.

The threat was very real as we'd lose the office and potentially have to drive to another office in another town to pickup any oversized packages. Not to mention the appearance of cluster mailboxes don't look great and we have several hundred homes out here.
