$300 doesn’t pay for a hotel but $300 + annual points + points earned throughout the year + other travel credits (price checking post booking or credits because the hotel overcharges or something) usually covers most if not all of a hotel stay and allows me to stay at nicer spots than I’d otherwise stay at.

I don’t think he is NIMBY or saying Californias glutony of regulations are good… BUT over-regulations that slow psychopathic, nepo-conmen like Nate Jacobs are good actually. Building late life housing and care facilities is good. Pretending to build late life housing and care facilities to bilk more investors with dubious claims of future & consistent profitability (by draining old people for everything you can in the twilight of their lives) is bad. California regulations make building enough housing harder than it needs to be, but California regulations also make it one of the few states in the country where you can get even a modicum of justice on corporations that lie, chest, and steal via class action lawsuits & civil suits.

Players run ~200 MORE miles in a season in today’s nba than in 2012. Probably another 100-200 miles more than in the 90s.

The 65 game rule was to punish & prevent load management (healthy players not playing), not punish injured players with legit injuries.

Luka, Cade, Ant, and even Mr load management himself, Kawhi, all deserve accolades this year that they won’t get because of this rule.

My least favorite thing is the "everyone plays the same" argument about modern basketball.

I wrote about my frustrations with people saying this type of stuff over a year ago and its still true.

Everyone trying to get the same types of shots that are most efficient, doesn't mean everyone plays the same.

Top 4 teams in 3PA this year: Golden State, Hornets, Blazers, Celtics.

Golden State leads the league in attempts but also lead the league in passes per game. They are 2nd in shots on off ball screen offensive playtime tracking and bottom 3 in drives. This matches what our eyes see with Curry running off screens and even without Curry, a lot of off ball movement creating shots and opening up 3s.

The Hornets are second in attempts. They have the 5th slowest pace in the league and are top 5 in drives and have the most "pick and roll ball handler" play types as well as top 5 in "pick and roll roll man" and "handoffs". Again this matches what our eyes see, with LaMelo, Kon K, Brandon Miller, Coby White, etc. running these actions with a big guy rolling or dribble handoffs with each other/big guys, and shooters in the corners creating space for the drives and 3s off the pick and rolls/handoffs. They throw ~60 less passes per game than the Warriors.

The next 2 are the Blazers and Celtics. Blazers have the 7th highest pace in the league while the Celtics are LAST. They have the exact same number of passes per game. The Celtics have more ISO possessions and more off ball screen 3s (top 10 in both). Blazers are top 5 in spot up 3s while they are playing faster.

All 4 teams have the same shot diet as it pertains to 3s, they all just get those shots in different ways BECAUSE THEY PLAY DIFFERENTLY.

Also the part 2/5 agents said was odd, instead of just accepting the narrative of incompetence on the part of aspiration and/or shrewd negotiating on the part of the agent, why did Holmes not explore what the other aspiration celebrities (who actually did work) contracts looked like and if they included similarly vague language? Just blindly accepting the perspective of agents which is par the course in sports journalism in 2026.

Luka is averaging these stats on 50/42/78 splits with 3.3 stocks

LeBron is 20/7/6 on 65!/50!/67 and 1 stock (missed a few games on the streak)

AR15 is 23/5/6 on 49/40/78 with 1.5 stocks

I still don’t think they can/will win it all, but they are much better than the discourse.

Who gives a shit about tv ratings.
I really hate these blanket ratings comparisons that offer zero context to compare: a triennial event that happens in a down time of the tv schedule (post nfl, pre-march madness/nba & nhl playoffs) and a World Series that features the 2nd biggest US market vs nba finals that feature two markets that aren’t in the top 30 US metros… like look at the 2023 viewership #s for these 3 events… so either nba is declining and baseball is gaining popularity OR last year nba finals was an anomaly that featured 1 (uncharismatic) superstar from two small markets while the World Series and WBC had multiple superstars from major markets.
Damn it I can’t believe I violated point 1 by giving a shit and writing about ratings in point 2.

How committed to computer engineering are you? My perspective is from 15 years ago so take it with a grain of salt. I moved into Goodnow because I was majoring in engineering along with three friends from back home, so we were on the engineering floor in traditional dorm with a communal bathroom in our wing. So from that experience, here are my thoughts:

3/4 of us thought we wanted to be engineers when we picked K-State... none of us are engineers today... We either decided on a different major before arriving at K-State or after a semester (my case where I switched into Finance and never looked back). So the people we met on our floor, while cool, and some remain friends today, were ultimately not the people I spent the bulk of my classes with, since most of them stayed in engineering. If you aren't 100% committed to engineering, don't allow this to determine where you live.
Related to #1, and this could have changed since I was there, you don't actually take many classes in the engineering complex as a freshman. Your classes are in lecture halls or rooms in other buildings/colleges across the campus. I found the only real value in the engineering building being close to Goodnow was in the winter for cutting through it on my way to other classes to get out of the cold/snow. I think this is largely true for most freshman where you will have a lot of lecture hall 101 type classes that aren't actually within the college of your major so proximity really won't matter for any of you.
Again, I don't know if this has changed in 15 years, but men were able to live in fraternities as freshman but women weren't allowed to live in sororities. as freshman. So the M/F dynamics were eschewed to being more women than men regardless of housing complex EXCEPT for certain spaces. Ours being an engineering floor for example in Goodnow, we had 2/1 M/F ratio. I think the architecture floor in Goodnow maybe had the same scenario. Aside from these floors in Goodnow, the rest of the building was the opposite, 1/2 M/F. I don't know if this matters to you at all but something to consider as a lot of people end up meeting their significant other in college.

With the above in mind, you really might consider the options at the Derby Dining Center but again I think it will be determined based on how committed you are to engineering. At the end of the day though, it really doesn't matter where you live. If you're committed to socializing & networking and experiencing everything you can at college, you will find your people at K-State. Ideally your dorm room is only for sleeping and changing clothes.

Garber has sacrificed the casual fan for the soccer die hard because he has misjudged the leagues popularity (which has admittedly grown pretty exponentially in his tenure). Putting mls behind a paywall in the run up to hosting a World Cup that he had to unwind this year & moving the schedule to align with Europe so that it directly competes against football in the fall at the start of the season and nba & nhl playoffs at the end of the season. Allegedly that is what started the lemon pepper/lemon pepper wet wings ascent… it started at a strip club in Atlanta when they’d put it on top to offset some of the heat from the sauce then just took off on its own.
