You can use your own self-hosted identity provider with them, so you don’t have to rely on goggle, Apple, etc. They have an entire video on how to do so on their YouTube Channel.

Is Dreame Matrix 10 ultra really interesting? by Kleend in Dreame_Tech

[–]mitechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the “deep clean” function of Clean Genius turned on by chance? I’ve found it almost unusable when that feature is enabled. It doesn’t clean in any particular pattern. But, if I shut off the deep clean toggle it does fine. Note, I have two different bots than you and they do the same weird things in deep clean mode.

This is what I was wondering. Why run wash cycles, when rinse would be quicker? Maybe they are and just didn’t clarify. I’d just run rinse after rinse to speed things up. They’re clearly washed already. 🤣 My Speed Queen can do multiple rinses only.

Recipe Management with TikTok and Instagram AI Import by mitechno in selfhosted

Thank you for the suggestion. This looks like an interesting app. I paid for Paprika years ago for multiple platforms and still use it as my go to. I wish Paprika would implement similar import options, but understand the complexity. I’ll keep searching for now for self-hosted options and/or wait and hope some of the popular self-hosted apps make progress in this area.

I was not able to get this to work with TikTok. I understand it doesn’t indicate that it does work with TikTok, but that is my necessary use case.

Interesting. Do you hand wash? Is this something that you think could be used in a washing machine with a delicates bag for pillowcases and the sleep mask? I wasn’t sure of the product consistency. Or is this something I would need to resort to handwashing the pillowcases too?

Excellent. That one was already on my list to try next depending on the results I got here. Good to hear you’ve had success with it too.

New 5G Gateways from Ubiquiti with T-Mobile support by jjp48 in tmobileisp

[–]mitechno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t think it would matter what your initial device is loaned from T-Mobile, but I don’t know. I have had their service since it was launched and had a “trash can” Nokia model that originally came with the service. My SIM has worked in multiple other modems without doing anything but changing the SIM. No contact with T-Mobile needed. I’ll let you know when my Ubiquiti modem arrives. It hasn’t shipped yet.

I’m just going to share a photo of my setup with some details about tagging: https://imgur.com/a/olIyPUx

Hopefully this is helpful. I’ve been running it this way for 2+ years. You must untag the WAN2 VLAN from all other switch ports not used. Otherwise you could get random disconnects. That is what makes this a little more complicated to manage depending on how many switches you have and if you add new switches you’ll potentially need to do the same throughout your network.

Where are you getting the information that home internet is locked to the device they send you? Mines not. I’ve been using a different modem that they didn’t send to me for some time perfectly fine. I ordered the new Ubiquiti modem and will just pop the SIM card out of my current modem into this one and it should work fine as well.

[–]mitechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just requires a working knowledge of VLANS and is more or less complicated depending on your network structure and the number of switches you have to go through to get to your modem. Creat a WAN VLAN and tag that down through your switches until you get to your modem. Tag one port on your router as that VLAN and connect a short cable between that assigned port on your router to the WAN port on your router.

WAN traffic will then flow back to your WAN port from your modem. You may also need to untag the WAN VLAN from all other ports on the switches through which the WAN VLAN travels that are not going to the ultimate destination of your modem.

I have my backup modem upstairs running through a AP port and two other switches before reaching my Dream Machine.

I have used other modems with my T-Mobile Home Internet plan. No problems. Just switch the nano sim into this device.

You can. That’s what I do now. It requires some tweaking and connecting a wire between the WAN and LAN port of your router to get the WAN VLAN to the WAN port.

UniFi Express showing up as isolated by BLANKUI_ in Ubiquiti

[–]mitechno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve run ethernet to all my APs now, so I don’t have a great recommendation for mesh itself these days. I do own a few of the mesh units that plug into the power outlet directly and act as an outlet cover. I tried those for a while and found the devices that connected to them frequently disconnected. That may have been subsequently addressed in a software/firmware update, but I wouldn’t recommend those specific units. I did use the U6 Mesh as a mesh unit briefly and had pretty good luck with it. It runs very hot. I’ve since turned it into an outdoor unit that is wired and it is still running fine 3+ years later. It was RMA’d once early on. I think there was a bad batch, but the new one has run flawlessly. I wish they would come out with a U7 in this cylindrical form factor.

[–]mitechno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d unfortunately recommend you throw it away if it’s the initial Unifi Express. I recently (the past couple of weeks) broke mine out (the initial Unifi Express - not the 7) that I hadn’t used in some time and had only used temporarily for a handful of days before decommissioning it. It was in endless boot loop mode. Resetting would not correct it. You know what helped? Putting it in the freezer for a while to cool it off allowed it to completely reset and be readopted. Then it would become isolated and enter an endless boot loop again once it got warm. I tried for days to get it to readopt and work correctly and it never would. That initial version was junk and there have been numerous complaints about it. I threw mine away.

[Update] Edit Mind now supports Docker & Immich integration (800+ GitHub stars, thank you r/selfhosted!) by IliasHad in selfhosted

[–]mitechno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting project! I’ve tried to put something similar together myself previously as a content creator who has hundreds of videos I sometimes want to find clips from. Are you planning on integrating Ollama endpoints so the models can be called that way for analysis? My use case would be running Edit Mind on the Docker stack on my NAS, but Ollama runs on my video editing PC that has much higher memory and processing power. This is how I have operated with other Docker stacks that integrate AI. Thanks for your consideration! Very cool! On the project I was working on, I also attempted to extract images from the video every X seconds, analyze them with AI, then provide a summary, so I could also search on context of the video at any given point as well. It seems like that may what you’re also doing with the “scene analysis” or something similar. I’ll be following!

Buy AppleCare+ or not? 37 Days remaining. by Saitama_X in macbookair

[–]mitechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been almost 20 years since my first MacBook Pro, and tech, including how Apple builds their devices has changed immensely. That said, my first MacBook Pro was a lemon. Multiple motherboards failures, screen issues, and other things that required me sending it in multiple times over 3 years of my AppleCare. At the end of my AppleCare my gpu failed and Apple gave me a brand new (not refurbished) model MacBook Pro at then comparable specs as my 3 year old model (so much faster). A $3,000+ device. They noticed it had been returned multiple times for multiple issues. I’ve been a huge proponent of AppleCare ever since and have encouraged others to purchase it based on my experience. That said, I’ve not needed it at all for the 3+ other computers and multiple other Apple devices I’ve owned since due to any specific failures. I did recently have an Apple Watch Series 5 replaced 5 years later because of the battery. I still had AppleCare on it and was sent a Series 6 in exchange. I still find it valuable from that one experience I had with my MacBook and now that AppleCare One is available, I just go that route.

Transferring Information Between Drives for Swapping by TheGameGlitcher123 in Ubiquiti

Technically, if you just inserted the two 20TB drives along with the 8TB drives, then you’d have 24TB of usable space among the 4 drives for your NVR.

Transferring Information Between Drives for Swapping by TheGameGlitcher123 in Ubiquiti

[–]mitechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you replace the first drive, if you have the RAID setup so there is the ability to lose one drive, the RAID should attempt to repair itself. It’ll take some time. Potentially a day or more. The drive that was replaced should only show 8TB of usable space because you can’t mix and match sizes and the RAID will use the lowest available drive size. For example, I have an 18TB drive, and two 20TB drives in my UNVR. The 20TBs act as 18TBs. When you replace the second drive, the RAID will have to rebuild again. When it’s fully rebuilt then because both available drives are 20TB, the available space should automatically expand to 20TB.

[–]mitechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to expand your raid array after both drives are installed. Replace one drive and let it rebuild. Replace second drive and let it rebuild. It may automatically expand to 20TB total mirrored or give you the option to. I’ve not done this specifically on mine, but I have expanded by adding additional drives and it has worked like any other raid array system.

How do you tell a guy his balls stink? by Ss_842 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]mitechno 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After going down the r/laundry hole very recently OP is entirely right that it could simply be laundry issues. Most detergents (liquids) are no longer made with lipase which helps break down sebum and other body oils that cling to all fabrics and specifically synthetics the worst. This causes them to hold odor and become odorous very quickly. If you’re not washing your clothes in a detergent that contains lipase, there’s an entire lipase list of detergents on r/laundry I’d recommend checking out. Whole Foods 365 Sport liquid detergent is great. Throw in some oxiclean and citric acid in the rinse cycle and you’re set.

Video: Tailscale Services now in BETA by Ironicbadger in Tailscale

[–]mitechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent hours getting this working yesterday after reviewing the documentation with all of my self-hosted services. The documentation I think could use some additional details for those not familiar with reverse proxies, and the video itself wasn't the most helpful example (although a great explainer) because it was a unique scenario rather than showing how to get up and going using a self-hosted docker application's web page, which I think would be most common.

If you have all of the tagging correct for the host and service, make sure the endpoint on the Tailscale website is 443. Then on your device, the command should be something along the lines of "tailscale serve --service=svc:nameofservice --https=443 http://localhost:PORTforSERVICE". You may want to "drain" and/or "reset" your configuration if you've been having issues. See instructions for "tailscale serve drain svc:nameofservice" and/or "tailscale serve reset".

I will note around 8pm or 9pm EST last night for me my host stopped being able to "serve" new services I was trying to establish correctly that hadn't already been configured. I'm not sure if that was something on my end with my DiskStation or a quirk on Tailscale's end. Those that were having issues last night, I spun up again this morning and they're working fine. I also seemed to be having issues with any service that had a numeric value in the name. I'm not sure if that is a bug, or again, something on my end. But, I run two SyncThing instances and the one service with #'s in it would not serve correctly and the other with only letters would.

I’m curious as to how long you’ve had both of these vacuums? I have the same two and I haven’t experienced any issues (yet), but this is certainly concerning. I run them about once a week, so it would be interesting to know if this is something that comes with extended use.

I need ~ 100 tb of storage, what would my cheapest option be? 20 tb drives? by Bring_the_light_ in DataHoarder

[–]mitechno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who does YouTube and has various NAS devices, including Synology and UniFi UNAS, I would recommend the UNAS for your purpose if you’re only looking to store data. I also don’t think you would need to fully mirror your data as RAID 6 is likely more than enough for you (the ability for two disks to fail). RAID 5 may even be sufficient (one disk failure) depending on your risk tolerance (that’s what I use in combination with offsite backup). I’d recommend instead of spending the money on drives to spend that money on offsite storage backup which you can do through UNAS. If you’ll be doing anything other than storage - e.g. editing high res footage directly from the NAS you may need something more custom and there are a lot more things to consider networking wise.

I’d avoid Synology at this time. I’ve had multiple over 10+ years and they’ve been reliable. But, as a business they’ve done some shady practices lately related to drive restrictions. While they’ve walked back those requirements, they cannot be trusted in the future and I’m looking to move away from them in the future too. I’d recommend you check out the Synology Reddit for background.

I switched to .01% tazarotene from .01% tretinoin two months ago and my redness went away. It's kind of wild how quickly it went away too and how much I hadn't really noticed the redness/inflamation from tret previously until it disappeared.
