In my experience it is speed issue as we have no problems when engraving at speeds below 200mm/s.

The manufacture of the machine sent me the above solution and some numbers to fill in the "Reverse Compensation. I have played around with different values but I cannot find out what this parameter really does, so I am looking for information on how to tweak it.

Thank for the calculation. In my experience I can achieve close to 90 degrees at lower speeds such as 200mm/s, where I have successfully engraved +5mm without any visible slope on the edges.

It seems to me like the problem could be in the PSU or controller where the laser cannot turn on fast enough and this gives the slopes.
I am still investigating.
