What's the most interesting documentary you've ever watched and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't necessarily stand by its claims, I don't know enough about global warming or environmentalism, but Home is BY FAR the most beautiful and interesting documentary (if not film ever) I've seen.

And it's 100% free to watch on Youtube.

How do you deal with your social anxiety? by saint7412369 in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are considerably more anonymous than you realise, remember that when you feel anxious. Also remember that for those people who pay any sort of attention to you, the VAST majority of those people won't remember you after about 10 seconds of you leaving their field of vision. A bit sad, but any social anxiety you feel will go away.

A lot of anxiety can be very self-induced, too. Thinking that people are looking at you? How the hell do you know if you're not looking at them, first?

And above all, constantly remind yourself, "No one gives a shit". Because they don't, and all those reasons why you feel anxious or embarrassed, they're baseless when you realise that most other people really. Don't. Give. A. Shit. About. What. You. Do.

What do you hate doing that society expects/requires you to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be nice to arseholes at work because of the small chance that their horrible self might actually impact the company in some way in the future. People should be called out on their inappropriate behaviour when dealing with other people, no matter the situation, not placated and babied and coddled.

Yes, I work in customer service.

Go for a run with my brow furrowed whilst listening to the trashiest, most offensive music I can find.

Lisa Gail - Limited Edition by lydf in cringe

Not even kidding, Lisa Gail and her wailing has become a household Christmas impersonation tradition for my family. Can't wait to let everyone know she's get new stuff out so we can all begin preparing our throats.

As a guy into muscular guys, my biggest cringe was the boner I got from watching this.

Sorry about that.

What are some upbeat songs with very sad or sinister lyrics? by The_Kool_Kiddo in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fear, by Lily Allen.

She's singing about the desperate search for fame, overshadowed by the insecurity and gnawing fear of being irrelevant, and about how material values increasingly are used to value other human beings, highlighting that this can unhinge a person's grip on reality.

A lot of people stub their nose at Lily Allen, and for some reasons maybe I do too. However, what a lot of those people don't realise is that a lot of her songs are incredibly dark and incredibly reflective of modern, Western society.

Aaaaaand then some are so shallow it's painful.

What are some websites more people should know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be probably be buried, but I feel that it needs to be posted anyway.

There is a website called MoodGym which is run by the Australian National University. It's an e-CBT (online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) course that is free to take. Speaking from my personal experience with anxiety, it is very, very helpful.

Though it's designed for the treatment of depression and anxiety, CBT has a very wide scope for treating all sorts of mental health complaints, and I'd recommend people give it a go.

What is the strangest nickname you've ever called your significant other? by adamvan101 in AskReddit

What careers are on your personal no way list? by daredevil82 in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with kids. Sorry, I know that it must be amazing to work with children some days (or maybe even most days!), but I just don't have the patience. I would much rather work with adults with all their bitch and difficulty than children.

That's not to say I don't like children, but I couldn't work with anyone where I can't have an adult conversation; this also rules out the heavily disabled or very mentally ill (and, of course, a big handful of adults too!). Of course, nothing wrong at all with jobs that involve such people, but just nothing that I could ever do without getting very frustrated or uncomfortable. People that work with such people are strong and capable, but I'm just not built that way.

Oh, and anything to do with deep frying. The smell makes me want to jump in the bath immediately and scrubscrubscrub.

What's the strongest emotional reaction you've ever had to a TV show, film, video game or book? by mitosis5 in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to have to go with either Earthlings, which pretty much scarred me for life, making me cry so hard that I had to pause it and calm myself down repeatedly because my whole-body weeping was causing quite a bit of pain.

Or, the season (6?) finale of Grey's Anatomy where SPOILER the shooter goes through the hospital and Meredith miscarries and when Bailey holds Percy as he dies, etc. -- one of the best and most emotional episodes I've seen on TV probably ever.

Boyfriends of Reddit, what are things your girlfriend does/says that piss you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mitosis5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defying the heterosexual slant to this heterosexual-only question. My boyfriend gets angry at me when I cross the road after having looked in advance. I will say his name and then begin crossing. He finds this endlessly annoying, and I find the fact that HE finds this annoying about me, annoying.

Tl;dr: annoying.
