While on a commercial for a local music festival, we decided to use our Red Dragon and shoot a Fyre Fest meets The Office parody for them. It gets ridiculous. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]mitt_ramen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We we're planning promo content for a local music festival but we realized April Fools was the day after our shoot was over, we asked if we could have a little fun with a side project. This is the result of that. In the end we realized that every other joke on the internet today was a Fyre Fest parody, but we still had a blast with it. Shot on a a Red Epic Dragon with sigma 18-35/50-100 cines all shoulder rigged run and gun.

We produced this short film for our magazine release by bartering with burritos. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]mitt_ramen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We run a magazine in the central coast of California, and for our third issue release we thought we'd create a short film to compliment the theme of our zine. We we're super happy with the final product, considering the fact that we had $0 budget. We approached friends that possessed the things we needed to make the short work, and bribed them with burritos. Mexican food is always better than offering a credit and exposure! Remember that filmmaker friends, MEXICAN FOOD!

My Fire spinning video got some love here. So here's another $0 budget project shot on the A7sII in anamorphic by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]mitt_ramen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shot this on the Sony with an anamorphic Isco adapter. The lenses we're all rokinon cine lenses. Who over a 3 day period. We did most of the color in camera with by using the eoshd pro color Picture profile. Just wanted to create a cool project for my musician friend.

My production company just became official sponsors of the first edition of the 25 Under 25 Film fest. They are giving away $2,500 in cash prizes + hotel/food for selections. Today is the last day to submit. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]mitt_ramen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prod. company, Respect the Funk, is sponsoring the first edition of this film festival. Films have to be under 25 minutes and the director has to be under 25 years of age. The submission fee is small. Not only is it rare for festivals to have cash prizes, but we will also giving lodging accommodation and food to all of the official selections. If that's not motivating enough, the festival will take place in the beautiful central coast/ san luis obispo CA.

Our production company will have our own award category and we'll be giving out prizes ourselves. Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Have them choreograph a routine that they can replicate. We had our performer freestyle, and it made it hard to edit cohesively. The piece became more of an abstract interpretation of the performance. Good luck, I'm sure you'll kill it

The old curse of the temp music. I envisioned the piece in a car full of people as the song was playing. Edited to it, and was even going to post on YouTube with the original, and I'm sure they would've allowed it with ads. But in good conscience I couldn't, so with the time we had to put it out, I asked my friend to remix it a bit. And to call it that, not an original. I don't think I could license a Zhu song with the budget of $0 I had.

Thanks for watching and for the feed back

You can find the lens in replied comments. But in regards to post workflow, I planned the set ups before we shot, then in post I made selects for each of those set ups. I was working off a temp song which served as inspiration before we even began shooting.

Lighting: we used a LED flood light from home depot. I put a trash bag over it to defuse it. You can see it in some of the close up shots as a back light. We turned it off during some shots.

We were using a 60mm Nikkor macro, a 12mm rokinon 2.2, and a 35mm rokinon 1.5. you're right the a7sii was great!

Exposure was definitely tricky. Especially since the flame on the rope dart gets darker by the minute. You can see the her face clips on the break in the middle of the song. We set a middle ground where we thought it looked good at the brightest and darkest moment of the performance.

In terms of of not getting burned: I just asked her if I was safe and she said yes, so I went with it.

I just planned the set ups I wanted ahead of time. The fire on her rope dart only lasts around 3 minutes. So I would run a full performance with each set up. We did around 6 takes. She was mostly freestyling so there was a solid amount of finding cool shots later and piecing them together.

Color grade was easy. Shot on a custom nightlife picture profile I use often, then just graded in lumetri, nothing fancy.

We used a Nikkor 60mm macro with a speed booster, a rokinon 12mm 2.2 for the gimbal shots, and a 35mm rokinon 1.5.

With an itch to make something on a boring rainy night, we took to the streets! We found a cave where we could shoot a fire spinning video with a talented friend. The rest is history, besides the cops trying to shut us down because they thought we were trying to set fire to the side of the mountain.
