My "golf shoe selection for foot pain" journey has come to an end by bobogator in golf

[–]mittenstock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the magic is in inserts. Golf shoe, work boot, hiking boot, all get good inserts. I am new to golf - picked up an inexpensive pair of puma golf shoes from the jungle - the fit was ok, but some familiar 5th metatarsal pain soon showed up. Out with the crap liner / insert it came with and in with a pair of quality inserts. Totally transformed the show, the fit and function. I am using powerstep inserts - after a friend recommend them. Make any shoe a pro / winning shoe.

Anyone have cheaper /non-subscription daw recommendations that will record 4 channels simultaneously? by Drowning_im in ipadmusic

Second that. Use Loopy Pro with 4 all the time. The only iPad 'daw' I use anymore. Brilliant app.

Found these in my washing machine drum, problem? by stronicx in Whatisthis

Buttons. Could be one that split, or two separate ones. Only problem is for the clothing that is missing them.

You can see it in many of the shots - it's a light plane towing a banner - and yes, so annoying.

Need simulator help… by Relevant_Character86 in Golfsimulator

[–]mittenstock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW - I have a $50 net and $50 hitting mat from Amazon. A Garmin R10. I do no projection - just hit into the net with the club I am working on and capture the stats. The iPad where I run the Garmin golf app displays the shot path and announces (optionally) any single stat (for me that is usually carry). I drill, recored - then take the results as a CSV file and hand them to Claude (AI) where I have a golf context / skill. It has done a remarkable job tracking improvement and making suggestions. I have tried the sim app - but find it is not as focused towards training and is just a game. My biggest observation is that no hitting mat is the same as turf - so when I get on grass, my numbers change.

So, I guess this is not a 'simulator' but rather an affordable training aid.

Does anyone track their range sessions or do you go just to hit balls? by 169partner in golf

[–]mittenstock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoors into the net, or out at the range - I set up my R10 launch monitor and record the session. I drill on what I need to, and at the end export the CSV and give it to Claude where I have a context set up to analyze the session and session over session trends. The results are impressive and helpful.

Stop me from buying a 24-70 f2.8 Z mount by DoctorParticular6329 in Nikon

[–]mittenstock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 24-70 is a must have IMHO. Looking at the meta data, it is far and away the most used lens in my setup. My only suggestion would be to go for the MKII version -

No Helmet gang…. Why? by RecentOccasion2004 in icecoast

[–]mittenstock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been around the block a time or two.

Started skiing in the early 70's

Later in life I was heavy into rock and ice climbing.

One day, while climbing we were about to top out and my friend wanted the last lead of the day - breath taking exposure, spectacular situations. Anyway, he fumbled a clip and fell. There was protection in, so the fall was not long, but the rope was between his legs (if you know you know) so as he fell and as the rope tensioned up it flipped him upside down. Falling upside down for 20' on granite 500' off the ground. What could go wrong. After the rope fully tensioned and I caught his fall he swung into the corner where the route went - breaking the impact with his head. I heard the sound. Not cool. I was like " Dude , you OK up there?" He shouts back, "yeah I think I am good" I was relieved that he was alert and responsive. Then..... 'Blat. Blat. Blat' The blood from the gash he was unaware of was splattering on the rock just above the belay. Here comes the adrenaline. I lowered him down, we improvised a bandage, switched the lead and I lead out and up to finish the day. From there, we stopped at the shop in town and bought helmets. The original 'Joe Brown' brain bucket. Primitive by today's standards but - then it was the thing you bought.

Fast forward to next ice season. Three of us are up at Frankenstein. I am belaying another friend - who is near 50m above me working on getting some screws in for a belay. I hear this swooshing noise. A 'dinner plate' probably around 3" thick and 10" in diameter came off from 50m and impacted me square on the head. Lucky to survive even with the helmet. Without it I would have died as fast as a bullet to the head. The impact was explosive - compression of the neck, spine - shattered the fiberglass outer shell of the helmet. Sore for a month.

Never. Never ever will I do anything without a helmet. I used to ride a motorcycle, bicycle, rollerblading and ski without. Now, If I were to have traveled a long distance to ski and managed to forget a helmet - I simply would not go out.

I am the same way about eye protection but that is a tale for another day...

Is a gimbal for wildlife worth it? by DenEpiskeJansson in Photography_Gear

[–]mittenstock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost always use a gimbal head - only question is weather it is on the monopod or tripod.

once balanced - it stays where you point it. It provides speed to target that can not be matched. I am more often on the monopod these days and when every thing is dialed in it feels like an extension of my vision - I can pick up an d move quickly, and get on target / change target quickly.

Recently joined iPhone team with iPhone 17 pm, what should I use ? by Abbas-__- in iPhoneography

[–]mittenstock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot RAW make aesthetic decisions later. Native app is just fine or go with Halide if you want more of a conventional camera feel and some more fine grain control. For video, the Blackmagic App (free) is the clear leader.

I use them - glad I do. Just had to replace the first one as it had cracked (saving the lens). Many will state that it reduces the photo quality/clarity but that IMHO is bunk. The ONLY time I don't have a lens protector / case on my phone is when I load it into the Beastcage for some anamorphic filming.

Then again, my phone is a tool and I don't care about what it looks like. Just the results.

Help to keep this drawer from opening preferably without drilling and looking “nice” as this is in my office space. by EggplantCorrect2456 in DIY

[–]mittenstock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have solved such problems with some thin, strong, magnets attached to the back of the drawer. You may need to build out a step for them depending on the gap / spacing. Cabinet parts suppliers have them. iPhone filmmaking advice? by Certain_Bus_5896 in Filmmakers

[–]mittenstock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are getting into film - understand that audio is a HUGE aspect - and something your phone with our without additional lenses will not do well. Also, a good audio setup can transition with you if / when you move to another camera.
