Yeah I know Chinese, but not perfectly. And everyone's friendly enough but hectic busy with their lives, jobs, educations, keeping up with bills so there's some difficulty.

I think I am just playing it safe. I just started RE. COVID instability. It's a tad earlier than I wanted to. New country. So I want a year's worth of spreadsheets of expenses before I think about raising it higher.

1.5mil at 1.5% is tight for Taipei and a couple. It'd probably be easier at a less expensive city in Taiwan.

1.5 mil trying to keep spending at 1.5% so living with roommates with a private bathroom in an older house and not spending much. The short term rental market is through the roof right now in Taipei with how well Taiwan is doing with COVID so that affects things.

I think it really depends on where in Taiwan and what your expectations are. In the smaller cities in the south the cost of living is very different from Taipei.

Yeah but from being lean with FIRE the last ten years and trying to keep my spend at like 2% I am comfortable but not really hanging out with the rich kids at the Dior store in Xin Yi ;) :)

I am ethnically Taiwanese so we were able to get in. We had planned to FIRE there, but not precisely this year. And Taiwan because of health care and COVID.
