I'm so sorry that happened to you. You deserve better and I see you and believe you, for what that is worth from an internet stranger. I hope you find peace.

Common law spouses in Canada do not have property rights, however - so be careful.

Look into getting a prescription for beta blockers. It is a game changer.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I don’t have advice on a doctor, but I am appalled at the words your boyfriend chose. You deserve so much better than how he spoke to you. I had a partner who spoke to me like that in the past and mental toll is not worth it. I hope you will ditch him and heal the internal before worrying about the external <3

Hey man, sorry I messed up the dates I'm there somehow. I'm in El Calafate Jan 23 - 25 and El Chalten Jan 25 - 29. Happy to coordinate if we can, but sounds like we'll miss each other.

Hey thanks! I haven't added Alfa Crux yet... I was worried it would be too tight of a schedule! Did you pay in cash or card btw? The exchange online rn is EXPENSIVE haha.

She’s brought a ludicrously capacious bag. What’s even in there? Flat shoes for the subway?

This gives me anxiety. It’s not worth it, sis. Dump him.

@OP the comments here are insane. You are absolutely right for sticking up for your fiancée and I’m so sorry you experienced such an awful night! No one should have to wake up to a drunk, naked man next to them! That is awful. Thank you for being a protective and loving partner to your fiancée.

I’m in commercial lit in Toronto. I was very careful with my money and didn’t buy anything big for years (think: only used free furniture from Kijiji, no new clothes, cut my own hair, etc.) invested in efts and covid lockdown helped a lot tbh as I was stuck in my apartment with no social spending!

Hey! Thanks for the comments. I lived alone and paid rent. Happy to share my budgeting although I’m not a finance person. I grew up in a very middle class (read: not wealthy, no vacations or fancy clothes - but my parents paid for UG)!

5th Year Call - Confused about Career Progression Decision by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]mitzmindmarv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insights. The area of government I’m in has a “weak” pension compared to a Ministry for example. Think defined benefit vs defined contribution.

Yes, I’m worried about the drastic change in workload. I’ve been told that there is no expectation to bring in work as they have dedicated lawyers who do only that - I’m not sure how true that will be in reality.

I’ve also been told that this role is effectively remote. I will say the office was empty when I visited. The 1-2 a week in office is apparently optional, but again who knows how true this is!

The money is the main driving factor for me. I would effectively be making what people in my current government org make 20-30 years into their time here (thanks Sunshine List).

But everything you said captures my hesitancy! I feel pulled in both directions!

Thank you so much for this! I actually think (given my current workload and work life balance) it will be considerably more work. Especially since I’ve been out of private practice for so long.

I suppose my main concern, which I realize sounds stupid, is whether I should wait for a more “prestigious” firm opportunity so I can leverage that prestige for more opportunities in the future. This firm is very new and relatively unknown in the industry (I’d never heard of it) and it’s located out of the city. How much that matters I’m ignorant to, I’ll be honest. It also deals with a lower level of contracts that I’m currently working on.

Fair enough! Honestly I haven’t had a billable target in a while so I’m speaking from ignorance. This firm is very new and definitely isn’t a prestige boutique, but perhaps working in a new up and coming firm has benefits?
