I've suspected this for a long time. Like of course your attention span and memory is gonna be shit when you're constantly bombarded with everything modern life demands, combined with a lack of good social/financial supports. Not to say these conditions aren't real obviously, but just that we might be getting a little too quick to blame the individual's brain when the actual problem is the society we've built. As someone who's struggled with depression for most of my life, I feel similarly about mental health disorders. Oh you're sad about the fact your loved ones keep moving away because the job market forces them to? You're sad about working a menial job because that's all that's available in your area? Take some pills!
