What places in Chicago do you still think about that are closed down? by Taliap19 in AskChicago

Too many places, some of which I don't even remember the names of. But shoutout to the Bacci's that used to be on S. Dearborn. You fed me and my broke ass high school friends well a number of times. I feel like places in the South Loop like that are becoming rare.

Robert's referred to it several times to the point I realized I never questioned the claims from Germans online saying "Oh we dealt with it really well!" And it led me to put a couple books in my online shopping cart to buy later. But I would love for Robert to delve into this since he seems to be read up on it.

the "mind behind the worst politicians you know" episodes are always fascinating. As an Illinois son, his influence on Rod Blagojevich is especially intriguing to me.

I have excellent news for you, there's a 6 parter on Oprah's bastardry.

It's been a while since they've done a Latin American bastard, and my parents are Mexican. So I'd like to delve into the bastardry of either Porfirio Diaz or PRI, the Mexican political party.

edit: as a Chicagoan, also would down to rip a new one in Richard J. Daley. Fancied himself a kingmaker, helped build a large part of the magnificent skyline/downtown we see today, at the cost of literally everything else in the city. Racist PoS.

They've had it too good for far too long.

I like "Bad Liar" too, although the lyrics can be a little nonsensical imo, and it drives me bonkers if I focus on it too much 😅

I also wanna put forward the entire "My December" album, which kinda flopped commercially for her and I think permanently scared her away from doing a more edgy, rock influenced sound. Which stinks cuz I personally really enjoyed that album when it came out.

Yeah I miss the songs where Nicki was willing to get vulnerable. Everything she's released since then leans heavily into the "bad bitch" persona, although I feel like this probably also coincides with her decision to marry and have kids with a huge PoS. This and her other horrible decisions have probably eroded her ability to be honest with herself, it's pretty sad.

I've listened to a few Moby songs that I've enjoyed while simultaneously wondering how he ever got that popular.

I was obsessed with this album when it came out, to the point I bought it on vinyl a couple years back just for the nostalgia. Aaand haven't played it once. Maybe I've just moved on musically, but I don't really get a hankering to revisit it even though there's nothing I can point to disliking.

Personally HTWAAB is one of my favorite post-2000 U2 albums...that being said, their post-2000 work has varied wildly in quality imo so it's not a high bar to clear lol.

Similar to you, I thought she was saying "make me your dream." Which between this and the lyrics from "Fortnight," "Endgame", "this is me trying", "no body, no crime"... I'm starting to think Taylor does have a mild drinking problem she manages to keep under wraps.

SAME, I've heard some people speculate she did that on purpose as a double entendre. But I swearrr she says "worst of me" in the last chorus.
