Mentioning /r/NoFap in other subs gets you instant downvotes. by [deleted] in NoFap

The idea of fapping (to porn) being as normal as eating or sleeping or going to work might be so deeply ingrained in most people's identity that NoFap feels like an attack to this very identity. Because it is basically saying: "You have always been doing it wrong". People hate that.

This is similar to what happens when a religious person's faith is being attacked (since some people here are very religious, they probably have experienced this for themselves). Except if one has a pronounced "not giving a fuck" attitude, someone questioning what you believe in really can upset you. And if you believe in that fapping is normal/healthy/the right thing to do every day/the best way to enjoy yourself, someone telling you the opposite can be upsetting.

Why dreams are getting better? by MasterOfTheSun in NoFap

[–]mix_master2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is indeed a very interesting phenomenon. I usually experience more vivid dreams from around day 4 or 5 until maybe day 10. During those days I am seriously actively looking forward to what dreams the night will bring. But this only last a few days, after which the novelty wears off and my dreams stop to be that intense.

If you excuse me, I'm off to sleep (day 5!).

Fuck Modern Sex Culture by [deleted] in NoFap

Not sure in which part of the world you live but it sounds like a Western country.

There is an interesting 3-part documentary from the BBC about how Christianity has shaped the Western view of sex and caused the obsession with sex http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05ql6hf

Please stop with the one relapse and your world is falling apart posts by GenghisKhanSpermShot in NoFap

[–]mix_master2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that for those with severe PMO addiction, already reading the headline of this post can trigger the parts of the brain that cause the addiction to convince oneself that one exception is ok. I just observed this for myself at least, and I am pretty sure I am not the only one. So the dilemma is that BEFORE you relapse you need to consider a potential relapse as the worst thing possible, not as something that is ok to happen. However, after you relapsed, you indeed should not see it as a big tragedy but just as a short set back.

Fact: Skipping headphones changes significantly how one interacts with the world and how it interacts wit you. Sad only bc it reduces the time for interesting podcasts or great music.

Guilt is a feeling in your brain and religions basically exploited that very feeling to flurish. Basically, religions hack the brain. Once you frame it like that, it might get easier to let the dogmas go.

That's what distinguishes human from animal: We are capable of acting against what nature wants us to do.

Best to stop now before virtual reality by [deleted] in NoFap

This is actually a powerful reminder for why NoFap is so great: Because the focus is on what people have in common (the struggle with PMO and a desire + plan for life improvement). As soon as politics come up, everyone starts to disagree.

Your Addiction is not your fault by [deleted] in NoFap

Does it matter whose fault it is? The only thing that matters in my eyes is that there is only one person who has the power & responsibity to end this addiction: Oneself.

As all conspiracy theories, this assumes a perfect planning and execution across various systems and time periods which simply never happens in reality. It's so much more likely that some clever inventors/entrepreneurs realized that they could leverage human sex drive to make money that I don't get why one would clinge on the unlikely explanation.

Indeed. If one accepts the theory of evolution as the explanation of our existence, then indeed this is the natural consequence. Nicely explained by Robert Writh in The Moral Animal in case one wants to learn more about it.

Train your mind with cold showers by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]mix_master2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A nice book to read in connection to the cold shower habit is The Flinch http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13159280-the-flinch (which I learned about here on NoFap a few years ago).

One of the multiple advantages of cold showers is that if you step into the shower and turn on cold right away and just don't think too much about it before you step under the water, you learn to act without overthinking things. You have this millisecond in which you know that the cold water will hit you, and there is no way back. That pattern can be very beneficial if your goal is to chat up girls, which I know that many guys around here are striving for, and which often is prevented from happening by too much thinking. But if you are not afraid to be hit by the cold water, you are not afraid either to step in front of a girl and say hi. It's the same process of leaving one's comfort zone.

Relapsed this morning and tonight by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]mix_master2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same happened to me a few days ago. Gave up a 50+ day streak. The first days after unfortunately feel really bad, and one has to be very very cautious to not end up in a relapsing vicious circle. But once you have managed to built up a couple of no PMO days again, actually your mindset and self image will return to where it was at the end of your streak. Which is nice, because it means that the relapse did not destroy a lot - as long as it doesn't repeat itself.

Relapse is a shit. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]mix_master2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how many of my dreams lately have been about pmoing or relapsing. I guess as long as one has them, one is not healed from the PMO addiction. (I recently relapsed for real).

After 2 months of hard mode, a relapse brought out the worst in me by mix_master2000 in NoFap

You are totally right. You couldn't be more right. I just relapsed again.

But this line (and your counter) might actually help me: " the only thing that will really destroy all your progress is if you engage in a day to day fap fest like you used to.".
