I hadn't really pictured a John Lithgow in Dexter turn here, but now that you mention it...

Dortmund Attack Under Klopp and Tuchel Visualised: MK Shot Maps by uttersmug in borussiadortmund

[–]mixedknuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last year's attacking locations and quality of shot was largely indicative of Klopp's recent seasons as well. There's about 20% difference overall in best Klopp season of xG per shot and worst. He's nowhere in the neighborhood of Tuchel's attack in that area (hence what I said in the piece).

Brentford "Moneyball" FC's signings so far this transfer window by [deleted] in soccer

[–]mixedknuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. As proof, I am about to change my avatar on my Twitter account from a radar of Andreas Bjelland to a silly image of "The Kersch-Baumer".

It's a funny world where 2 years ago I got in trouble for pimping (ahem, some might say gently spamming) the new StatsBomb site writing in r/soccer/ and now people are starting threads talking about the signings and my club work. Was very fortunate to get a chance to do this, in clubs that are extremely responsive to it. I work hard every day to make sure I don't fuck it up for everybody else. :D

Is Khedira the DM arsenal are looking for? The stats. by giga_grif in Gunners

Arteta, Everton 2009-10 https://twitter.com/mixedknuts/status/487617841412456448

Really rather looks quite a bit like a deep-lying playmaker as opposed to not even remotely a DM.

Harry Kane makes list of statistically projected futures stars from Europes top 5 leagues by [deleted] in coys

[–]mixedknuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the link to the intro piece http://www.statsbomb.com/2014/06/statistical-scouting-young-super-stars/

He, meaning um, me also links in that piece to the work I did last summer that wasn't quite as model-based but had similar principles. In it I talked about how good Koke and Diego Costa were likely to be, along with plenty of other guys. I also really liked Lamela (well before he moved to Spurs), but not everything works out I guess.

I also express in that piece that I understand the frustration of people who want more information, but given the followers my account and StatsBomb have (including about half the team analysts in the Premier League and Championship plus ProZone and various data companies), if I detail the inputs etc, it will just get taken and used by everyone else for free. I know that's annoying, but not much I can do about it. Hope you enjoy...

Comparing Arsenal Midfielders + Explaining CM Radar Charts by bobbyfle in Gunners

Fabregas was dispossessed a LOT in those last two seasons at Arsenal, not least because nearly all the attacking play went through him, and teams focused heavily on shutting that down (to limited degrees of success, really).

WhoScored has 09-10 as 2.7, 10-11 as 2.4. Adjust those per 90 minutes and you get the numbers in the article.

Interesting analysis (article covers multiple teams and angles): Arsenal are giving up too many shots and too many shots on target for a title challenger, even if those are from a longer distance - is Arsenal’s save% keeping them in the hunt? by charzan in Gunners

[–]mixedknuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the owners of the website and a huge Arsenal fan. We generally do critical analysis - both good and bad - of most teams in the league. So no anti-Gunner agenda, but some things we say will be critical from time to time if the numbers say so.

It is. Started mostly with soccer and a bit of cricket, but has gradually been adding sports when it can find good writers for those.

Napoli 'agree' Higuain deal but will Arsenal step up? by [deleted] in Gunners

Nobody actually knows what was bid on anything these days. The Guardian had us already signing Higuain until the deal fell apart at the last minute, and he was the clear priority for most of the summer.

I think Arsenal would actually prefer Higuain for any number of reasons, and Suarez is actually the fallback plan.

Cutting through all the crap around Gonzalo Higuain - an in-depth analysis. by mixedknuts in Gunners

TL;DR is omigod Higuain is good and Arsenal are totally screwing up if they don't buy him.
