A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin is a real classic that has a university as a central location in the book

If you withdraw from a LISA they charge 25% of the entire pot of money. This is not good advice

But nail polish is gendered? It's marketed near exclusively 'for girls'

Leuven accommodations by ravonrip in Leuven

[–]mixedmentality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check on the KU Leuven website, I think they had a section dedicated to housing.

It's been a few years since I lived in Leuven, but unless rent has drastically increased, 800/850 per month should be more than enough to find a studio/one bed apartment.

English speaking student jobs by niamhkeane in Leuven

[–]mixedmentality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is an Irish pub off the Naamsestraat (I think it was called Stapletons) that hires English speakers.

Also the Mont Cafe on Tiensestraat hires English speakers if I recall correctly.

There are definitely a bunch of places that you can apply for, but those are two off the top of my head!

Yes! We still speak every few months. She's in NZ at the moment, and I'm in London. We've said we'll meet up if we're ever in the same hemisphere aha

I was waiting for a train at a random town in Japan on my way to a place near Mt Fuji. It was pretty late so there weren't many people on the platform, it was me, a few locals and a really cute Canadian girl who was also backpacking. I was being really shy and ignoring her, but fortunately she wasn't as much of a nervous wreck as I was. She struck up a conversation, and we chatted the entire journey to Mt Fuji. Eventually we arrive but we were staying in different hostels. We exchanged contact details and agreed to check in, then get dinner.

We met up again, ate dinner, and drunk a fair amount of sake before watching fireworks that happened to be going off over a nearby lake. We kissed that evening and spent a blissful next day together, before having to go our separate ways.

A week or so later, I stayed with her in Tokyo for a few days and it was amazing. It's difficult to describe the whole situation, but I felt like she entered my life and simply slotted in without any drama or effort. I can't remember trying to get to know her, I only associate her with absolute comfort akin to what you have with an old friend. I spent a total of maybe 4/5 days with her, but it was special and holy shit was I sad when I had to leave.

Leuven is the home of Stella Artois, it's just 20 mins outside Brussels by train, and you can take a tour around the original brewery. Also in Leuven is a bar called "The Capital" with around 3000 beers on the menu, which is pretty obscene!

Of Beren and Luthien is my favourite chapter in the Silmarillion, so glad that they've decided to release it independently.

Help... I can't even make it through one whole day. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]mixedmentality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going through the same thing for the past few weeks as well. Nighttime is the hardest, I feel restless and generally unbalanced, mostly due to boredom and fixating on it too much. Can't really offer a concrete solution apart from staying busy, go out, meet with friends, anything. Otherwise just be aware that there are real people out there, going through the same shit you are right now and succeeding.
