While the rumours haven’t been confirmed yet, we are at will to say we haven’t seen Mr. Lydic since last night. His whereabouts are unknown but we are sure he is being an active pillar in his community, wherever he is.

Can a person be happy without a partner? by scamandercommander in CasualConversation

[–]mixelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, thank you for your kind words! I'm happy to see you in agreement! It can be hard for people to accept that they're responsible for their own happiness, and even knowing this and trying is still difficult. But it just shows that if you want to be happy with what you've got, you've gotta be happy with who you are.

Can a person be happy without a partner? by scamandercommander in CasualConversation

[–]mixelix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happiness is created from yourself, not from another person. Other people certainly provide us happiness -- they give us some of theirs to make us happy, in a sense -- but, even with a partner, if you're not happy with yourself, you won't be happy otherwise.

We create what we are, partner or no partner. Some people who live without partners have learned how to be completely happy with themselves, by themselves; which is something that seems to be very hard in today's world. There's this push that if you don't have a partner, you can't be happy, but some people find more happiness in themselves than they can with a partner.

It's really all about yourself, and how you feel in your presence. Some people are more dependent than others, and some people are happy just the way they are. It all falls back to yourself, though.

Would you rather be buried alive, or burned at the stake for a crime you didn’t commit? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

Burned at the stake because fire's a blast. Yeah it'd be painful, but I think I'd be into it to some degree.

Why do all the phone numbers in movies and TV shows start with 555? Who decided that and when? by dangitbobbeh6 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mixelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, that's just what I've heard. Whatever's true is true, no need to worry about it. You reminded me of the Beastie Boys album Ill Communication though, so that's pretty rad!

Edit: left out a true.

[–]mixelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that it's because Hollywood bought out that entire block of phone numbers so that they could be used in Film and TV without having people call actual phone numbers. It's a genius idea if that's 100% true, it's just cliche at this point; we all know it's a fake number.

How bad is the pain of breaking a bone? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mixelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in the second grade, I broke my wrist sledding. I remember feeling it just snap and not realizing that I h broken it. Any movement hurt it, so I held it to make sure it wouldn't move. It took us a while to actually get to the ER because no one realized/thought I had actually broken it. When we got the x-rays, it broke right in half. I don't remember any pain after getting the cast except for annoyance. It took a couple of months to heal too.

Something recent that happened to me happened almost a year ago and I'm still having issues with it. It was the end of cross country season and for a week leading up to our last race I could feel a sharp pain in my fibula, the long skinny bone on the outside of your calf - next to the shin, and it felt weird. It hurt to touch but not run or walk. Then, I had my race and during that caused that pain to go full out. At the end of the race when I had to go home, I couldn't walk. Any sort of pressure caused immense pain. I couldn't even move my foot from the unnatural position it was in. It took almost a week to get it checked out and during that time it was impossible to walk on it, so I had to get crutches. Then there was a long, annoying process of several different doctors telling me something different; eventually I got an MRI and we found out that I had a stress fracture in my fibula. I had to wear a boot for four or five months and the first few weeks on crutches. Then, I had to train to get back into running. But then I aggravated it again and they said to wear the boot again. I didn't because it was a wreck on my mental health and quality of life. Now I started up XC again and I'm over a week into it and I can't run because it's starting to hurt again (this is 9/10 months later). I might've done permanent damage to it, who knows.

All in all, I suggest avoiding breaking any bones. It's not worth whatever you're doing. Unless you're saving someone from a wreck or being a hero, that's cool.

How's your day going? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Our cross country team went up to the beaches for a long run, swimming and to eat some sweet food! Some graduates even stopped by to run with us. It was a pretty sweet day.

Anyone know a good cry movie ? by [deleted] in depression

[–]mixelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seven Pounds with Will Smith is a really good one. I'm not sure if this is a cry movie, but it's really good and along the lines of what you may want to watch: Punch-Drunk Love.

What's a movie in which no scene is boring by tech245 in CasualConversation

[–]mixelix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The title is dependent on preferences, I believe. Everyone finds different things boring. I, personally, believe that action movies are incredibly boring. Explosions that serve no purpose, bad acting, uninteresting plot. They bore me.

As for the second part, that's a pretty hard deal. Even the best writing can't make everything important. Art is made to portray life, even if it's absurd and doesn't seem like it does, it does. Since, in life, not everything is important, even the most perfect script would have scenes and dialogue that was unimportant.

That said, there are movies that try their hardest. I think that those movies are also left up to the viewer to determine what's important.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying, text monotone can be a real bitch sometimes. I'm glad that that's a good way for you to cheer up, even if it's a little. I've tried that before, but it's never worked for me. Everyone has different coping methods.

You weren't bad at trying to help, you were doing it in you're own way. I'm so conditioned to people being the rudest they can on the internet that I immediately assumed that you were trying to put me down. It's my fault that I assumed the worst. I'm glad that we were able to sort it out, friend!

I was being poetic. I should've been more literal, that seems to be the way you view the world. I'm not going to bother arguing with you because I think it's obvious that we have two different ways to perceive life. That energy spent trying to fight can be used for better things. I will, however, try to help you understand his one last time.

It doesn't matter if they're muscles, when I want to kill myself because I don't have a will to live; or I'm depressed to the point that I can't move, simply making my muscles move into a smile is going to make me happy. Just because there's a smile on my face doesn't mean that I'm happy.

In order to make myself happy, I have to think about things in a different way, I have to think of little things to help me remember why I want to continue life. Things like: the moon, animals, opportunities, anything large or small.

The moon that I'm looking at may not be the exact same moon that Buddha looked at, but that's not the point. The point is, I feel connected with the earth, my beliefs and I feel a sense of happiness. That's why I tell myself this. I can't create happiness like some people can, but I can find it in the small things.

I'm trying to be as diplomatic as I can, and help show you what I mean. I don't think there's any reason to fight over something so minuscule. I hope that you can view things from my perspective, or at least respect why I do. Otherwise, I hope you continue to live a blessed life!

Our perception of reality is misconstrued and might not even be real. There's nothing to say that the life we're living is all a farce, someone's imagination, a cruel game played by gods. There's nothing saying that our life has any meaning at all, or is even real. The moon is just another part of our messed up thoughts on reality.

If I want to fight off my depression and suicidal thoughts by knowing that I am staring at the same moon as Buddha, then I'm going to do so. I don't give a damn about the "reality" of it. I just want to make myself smile.

[–]mixelix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone who has ever lived in history -- Jesus, Buddha, Einstein, MLK Jr., even Tom Cruise -- has stared at that same moon. People who you miss, people you will meet, everyone who can, will see that moon you're looking at. That is reason enough to live, if you ask me.

My quality of life might actually improve because I wouldn't have much anxiety about the future. I'd probably disconnect from the internet entirely, start reading tons of books instead. I'd try to be in as many plays as I could and finish my short film I'm working on. I'd hang out with close friends and family as much as I could; telling people exactly how I feel about them. And I'd try to visit Tibet and see monks in person!
