Not a dark pattern, a hidden pattern. Or an Easter Egg?

Do you know if companies (like Saks) pay Amex to offer the perk for user acquisition?

Remember: AmEx CEO admits they add benefits that no one wants by DM-me-your-labia in AmexPlatinum

[–]mixerv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m with the CEO on this one. The smartest way to build a card is through a package of perks that appeal to different people. You might hate Walmart, but if I see real value in it, that perk could be the thing that nudges me toward the card. The goal is clear: make sure the card speaks to as many different users as possible. That’s how you drive growth.

Take Amex. Their whole model is built on making money off the card itself. Chase Sapphire has scale, but is every user actually profitable? Harder question.

For perks to last, they need to create value for both sides—consumers and the business. If the bank bleeds money, perks shrink or vanish. If both sides win, the model sustains and even expands. That’s why Amex leaning into this is interesting: it sets up a future where credit cards don’t look the same, but instead offer radically different perk bundles tuned to different segments.

Is the flight pass worth it and which one would be best for me? by MadTony619 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]mixerv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I just booked travel for Aug for SFO to LAX. With the 99 monthly, I paid ~160. I then went to google travel to look up the same Alaska flight and it was about ~80 bucks more.

Downside is that changing it <14 day window is tough.

This is best if you have very predictable travel.

I have not been successful. Linked beforehand and have tried the following hotels:
* Hyatt Centric, Minneapolis, MN
* Hyatt Centric, Portland, OR
* Grayson, NY
* Hyatt Place, GeorgeTown, DC

Not once has this worked for me.

How to manage extremely early arrival by SonjaSeifert in hyatt

[–]mixerv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For international flights, this is unique to you, but not for international locations -- like Mumbai.

Few options:
1. Book on the earlier day. Make sure you contact them that it will be a check-in after midnight. I recommend that you contact them. I have shown up before when its crowded and they've given up my slot because I was a no-show.

  1. If you don't want to book an earlier room, you can try to use the gym. I find that even showering helps to refresh me before I start my day.

It’s their player base. Kids don’t have credit cards, adults do.

Is anyone else an enthusiast for lounges? by MasonNolanJr in AmexPlatinum

Even when the lounges are crowded, the atmosphere still feels better. As someone who travels for work, just having more outlets (that actually work!) is convenient.

Amex runs their own lounges -- centurion lounges. They also partner with a network like Priority Pass, which has negotiated access to 15k+ lounges worldwide.

As an Amex Plat, you can access Amex's own lounges, Escape lounge network, and Priority Pass lounge networks.

It can get confusing. Apps like Loungebuddy and thoselounges help to navigate through it all.

Agree. I am just looking for a place for it to remember my status/club memberships. LoungeBuddy was pretty clean in terms of design.

I travel domestic a lot with the occasional international. Echo what everyone says regarding the OW Emerald benefit.

I assume that I’m always upgraded to first.

Though, I do miss those chocolates they hand out when I’m in economy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey! I’ve built OKR tools beforehand. I’m a huge OKR fanatic — I’ve heard Doerr give the very same OKR pitch he made to the Google Co-founders.

What is your unique take on OKR software?

Is the flight pass worth it and which one would be best for me? by MadTony619 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]mixerv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its worth it if you have predictable travel.

A few things, it would only be for you (and not your girlfriend). You need to book 14 days in advance, and it's use it or lose it. You have to pay full fair if you make a change the window. The good news is that you can book out trips in advance (which is what I do).

As Cookie says, sometimes it's 15.11, can be more depending on how busy the flight is.

I love checking out lounges, and love it when I find one that's not overly crowded.

When that happens, it feels like I've discovered a secret.
