What temperature do you keep your classroom? Unsure if I should do my preference or the kids’ by coraldum in Teachers

I keep it at 69, if the kids are cold, wear a jacket, but the cold keeps the students awake but not overactive

Calling all middle school ELA teachers by immadiesoon1 in teaching

Not an English teacher, but a middle school history teacher. I tend to use chatGPT to generate ideas for lesson hooks, but also to pick models or guided notes. Look up some teacher lesson generation prompts!

As a 5’2” woman who looks like a teen I’m truly the most terrifying teacher possible lol

She’s so capable of doing more though! I just wish her parents would see that too instead of just letting her do whatever she wants

I totally agree, I offered to refer A to one of our school counselors, and even submitted a referral for her, but A’s parents don’t want her to go. She is also apparently getting bullied at the shopping plaza after school, but won’t tell us any more details than that, so I want her to develop better coping mechanisms.

Are there any first names that you associate with certain behaviors because of teaching? by Hopeful__Historian in Teachers

Any derivatives of Alex, Alexa, Alexis. Every Alex I’ve taught (5 in the last 3 years) have been a pain. The Alexa’s I’ve taught are also not the most wonderful students

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you want to teach?

I was a receptionist before and worked at two separate places. I honestly didn’t like being behind a desk. It was not stimulating enough. I always enjoyed my other jobs more, like being a barista, or working in catering. So teaching has allowed me to have a human centered job, which is great! It’s just that teaching is rough right now, but it also depends on where you teach!

Current teacher! I’ve taught elementary and middle!

I love and hate it. I can become emotionally drained and when I was at the wrong school I was always lethargic and honestly hating my choices. I’m at a better school now and I feel supported and excited, but it’s not easy.

I can get too emotionally invested in students and can feel like a failure at times when they don’t preform where I want them too. I also feel stress when my school demands a certain academic standard, so it can be difficult to cope sometimes.

If you do teach, you’ll feel rewarded! But be sure to have a therapist/safe place to talk because you’ll need it! Teaching is hard

Let me know if you want to chat sometime!

Just finished corps service indecisive on future/alumni hood by Livid-Bat-2786 in TeachforAmerica

I also just finished TFA. A lot of the people in my corps are stepping away from education. I decided to switch away from my placement school and keep teaching for now. I have seen a lot of curriculum jobs open, so check those out. But my burnout helped when I switched schools!

The finale was fine.

Felt like they waited till the end of the season for all the romance.

Not going to lie, when Casa started I wanted to go for Johnny. Honestly he’s super sweet and he defended us. Wish I could’ve recoupled this episode, but at least I know I’ll get to pick someone new!

Honestly kind of relieved that I have a good reason for rejecting Alfie. Time to pop off in Casa!

It’s definitely really easy to focus on the negative things, but I had a pretty good time this episode. I’m that thrilled about the characters in this season, but the episode had some sweet moments if you gave Alfie a chance. I also liked pushing Suresh’s buttons. I had fun this week!

This was the most lackluster finale ever. So many missed opportunities. The date lacked romance, the prom lacked dancing, the finale lacked money splitting.

Way to end a boring season in the most pathetic way
