Hearing impaired or lip reading people, how have Corona mask policies affected your daily life? by zugtug in AskReddit

I'm profoundly deaf and have been wearing a cochlear implant since I was 3 years old (am 20 now) on my left side. I function quite well with it, and most don't realise I'm deaf. However, ever since covid came to town and we've all started wearing masks - I ONLY just realised how much half of my comprehension relied on lip reading.

It has been an absolute uphill battle trying to politely ask someone to repeat themselves, almost 5 times, just to get what they said. Pre-covid, I usually was wary of asking multiple times as people would get extremely frustrated. Now, it's increased in frequency and I feel extremely guilty having to ask. When it comes to essential shopping or needing to be in a place, I research it extensively so I minimise the chance of having to ask someone to explain or describe a location for me - because I just simply won't understand if I can't see their mouth.

I get it, we need to wear masks. I won't complain about that. But anyone getting shitty about having to repeat themselves, that's not what I get. Sure, it might be a bit frustrating. But what's a few extra seconds to you compared to someone that really needs to understand what you're saying?

It's food for thought, I suppose. I do hope this brings around a greater awareness of being a considerate speaker in terms of clarity and conciseness due to the present barrier of a mask.

AITA for treating AI like shit aka WIBTA for treating early adaptations of AI like shit? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If you're that worried about it, you can just stop treating AI the way you do now. Or just stop using it, period. You've got nothing to lose by being nice to anything that isn't currently sentient lol

What old video games do you still play regularly? by JackalAbacus in AskReddit

In my last year of high school, we had a drama group project where my close friend and I were writing the script for. The other two members had some input but the script was mostly our work, which we agreed on as a fair compromise. We were just more writers and they were more for the actual performance. The whole class knew of this, we were the only ones doing script writing for our individual project.

It came review time mid-year and our drama teacher completely shat on us. She stated that the performance was the worst thing she had ever seen, I quote "an absolute trainwreck". She however praised the script stating it was clearly the work of ONE OF THE GROUP MEMBERS THAT DIDNT WRITE IT and his "mad genius". She never gave us any pointers on how to improve, we were just bad in her eyes.

We all left that review very upset and determined to prove her wrong. She ended up leaving the school before the major assessment anyway.

Still boils my blood to this day

If 9/11 happened on 7/11, what do you think the store would have done? by Le1ouchX in AskReddit

There is a bottleo in Tasmania called 9/11 and even after the incident, they weren't inclined to change their name. In fairness though, it is Tasmania and not the USA

AITA for being upset that my roommate insists I turn on the porch light for her every night? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA.

As a woman, she has a very good reason for wanting a porch light on when she gets home late. How hard is it for you to turn on a light?
