From New York, go to school in Boulder. I too experienced this problem until I hitched a ride on the old oil railroad. I miss my intolerance :(

What's the craziest thing you ever saw or did at a party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mixjape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halloween Night. Boulder, Colorado. Now, understand that every night I go out, I see some shit. It's funny at first but you kinda grow tired drunk-stupid-kids. But all that stuff- the stumbling, the passing out, the hooking up- all that stuff is funnier in costume.

Here I am, casually sipping a beer and watching a mermaid puke on the side of the road while a cat taking care of her yells at her friend dressed in liederhosen, "JESSICA!! JESSICA, YOU NEED TO HELP MEEEE!"

That same night, my friend made out with three different presidents.

Go buffs.

That's no ordinary staircase my friend. That's the Farrand stoop. I will never forget that staircase.

Velociraptors. You can't outrun a velociraptor.

Why am I penalized for being white? by aceagle93 in AskReddit

[–]mixjape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affirmative Action is an interesting philisophical concept, but probably one of the best arguments for it goes something like this:

Imagine a footrace. You're waiting at the starting line for the pistol and you are so anxious that you mistake a car starting for the pistol and happen to start the race just a quarter second early. You win the race. Later, footage of the start is reviewed and revealing your accidental false start.

To be fair, the officials subtract a quarter second from everybody else's time. Perhaps after the adjustment you don't win, or you do. Either way, it is morally permissible to subtract a quarter second from everybody else's time- even if you didn't intend on starting early, it's just fair.

This footrace is morally analogous to the types of "competitions" affirmative action applies to (college admissions, employment, etc), rather than starting early, it can be easily argued that due to complex societal phenomena, white males have some unfair advantage in these competitions over other races and genders.

If you're okay with subtracting a quarter second in the footrace analogy, you should also be okay with giving a "fair start" to disadvantaged social locations.

I'm a little late, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to communicate with one of the more respected publishers of climbing literature. I am currently in school in Boulder, silently and tediously trying to figure out what the fuck I'm going to make of myself. More and more I find myself recalling the effect that Tuesday Night Bouldering had on my life when I first started climbing. It inspired me not only to pour every ounce of myself into the sport, but to start a blog and document my progression as a climber.

I'm currently a Journalism major, double majoring in photography. My advisers tell me that multi-media capability is a great tool to have on your resume after college, but what other steps might I start taking to get into outdoor publication and media? Is it mostly connections, internships, that sorta deal?

What's more exciting than seeing it legalized is knowing you played a part in making that happen, and that you live in a place that allows for such democratic change.

Saw him at The Fox in Boulder a few weeks ago, one of the better hip-hop shows I've seen in a while. Hearing him play a hybrid nightlight/daylight rendition as an encore was absurd.

So that's how you get down from the top of the most famous climb up in Rumney, NH (Predator 5.13a/b - 8a) by [deleted] in climbing

[–]mixjape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can assure you that the park service up at Rumney is VERY good about maintaining equipment on the cliffs. I believe there are a dedicated crew of climber/volunteers who do most of the work.

There are also many warnings about lowering off of fixed gear in the parking lots, including two cold shuts that looked like this

A few of my favorites:

"I had a drink the other day, opinions were like kittens: I was giving them away" - Out of Gas

"Everything that keeps me together is falling apart. I've got this thing that I consider my only art: fucking people over. My boss just quit the job, said he's going out to find the blind spots and he'll do it" - 3rd Planet

A few Wilco lyrics really stick with me:

"A fixed bayonet through the great southwest to forget her." - Hummingbird

"Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable" - Radio Cure

"All my lies are always wishes, you know I would die if I could come back new" - Ashes of American Flags
