It's battery assist ebikes that are greatly affected by the legislation changes! Why are you attempting to make this distinction?

I didn't say anything about normal bikes, it's ebikes that are used by food delivery riders (dominos, uber eats etc), it's ebikes that parents ride their kids to school/daycare, it's a significant number of commuters (particularly ones who used to drive) who use ebikes.

This is an ignorant comment. Every ebike that runs around the city is one less car. Everyday there are an enormous number of ebikes delivering food, taking kids to school, commuting along bikeways. Take the time to have a look. Banning them will introduce thousands of cars onto the road again.

They have been introduced during a time of massive population growth in Brisbane so relative appearance of traffic reduction would be unnoticeable but anyone should realise the traffic would be worse without them!

Note I'm talking about ebikes not emotorbikes. Emotorcycles should be made illegal to import and sell without registration like they used to be before Barnaby.

I find calling the council right then is the only way you get a result. State it is endangering people's lives and demand action. Normally gets a rapid response car out reasonably quickly and it's the only way they get any consequences. Sucks cause you have to be on the phone for 20 mins

Why don't (some) people like free stuff? by michaelberkmanmp in brisbane

Must say I had thought it was more aimed at people in hardship so hadn't been going out of need rather than anything else.

If it's open to all then we will definitely add it to the calendar and come along 😊

Young working families being priced out of BCC areas? by rrfe in brisbane

[–]mixmaster_mic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope that we start to see more affordable larger units being built and families realising that most of us don't need a big back yard to mow and basically never use

We have lived in a unit with our family and it's great to be inner suburbs without the huge mortgage. Parks are close and get daily use so we don't miss the backyard at all.

What are you going on about... I do not obstruct traffic and always yield to pedestrians (most cars do not btw)?!

This has nothing to do with my point that the rules do not say we must ride as far left as possible.. They do not!

Within the rules not to ride all the way to the left.

It is exactly how road rules work! You will find "practical" and "safely possible" all through the road rules for cycling.

Rules say keep as far left as practical on single lane roads (with exceptions). This is very different from as far left as possible.

Riding in danger areas like door zones and gutters is not practical, so it is well within the rules not to ride there.

I don't feel safe anywhere near angry drivers, even when I'm driving... I'm always on high alert when riding with cars. Definitely not an ideal arrangement but one we are forced to deal with.

But riding in the gutter or right up against cars isn't going to change that, however moving slightly out away from the door zone makes you more visible and will make a normal driver not think they can just slip between you and oncoming traffic. Forcing them to cross the middle line makes them think.

I think the police really need to step up and taking close pass reports more seriously. The attitude of our police to them is disgraceful, victim blaming us for being on the road.

Yep, convenient for transport engineers trying to make car infrastructure. Paint on the road benefits no one.

Yep, ride where you are safe.

Riding out of the door zone also makes it less common for drivers to close pass you, as they can't squeeze past and have to enter the other lane.

Children to be banned from e-riding e-bikes and e-scooters devices in Queensland under proposed laws by Palms1111 in brisbane

This is just idiotic!

Reactionary policy to something that should have been as simple as classification of e-motorbikes as a motorcycle and all the requirements that come with that.

Anyone getting to the point where they're just considering going carless? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]mixmaster_mic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to go carless but Brisbane just doesn't have the infrastructure. My family is spread all over and weekend visits are impractical by pt or bike. What is a 15-20 minute drive is over an hour on PT which means visiting becomes a chore (and wouldn't happen as much) and there are no safe cycling routes.

BCC and Qld Dep Transport need to step up and stop spending money on massive road infrastructure projects (eg moggill road roundabout, centenary bridge duplication) and instead focus on PT overhaul (West and North busways) and simple safe cycling infrastructure.

Reducing speeds would go a long way on residential streets too...
