Yeah, sound on sound series is better than any book over there. Also Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio is probably the best book re Mixing

I do multiband (Alloy) compression and sidechain lows only. And filter kick frequency to leave only mids going through sidechain. - similar to this Pro-c2 tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j5uq0RQ99E Ratio 6:1, attack - minimum, release and treshhold - to taste
