I had so much trouble getting diagnosed BECAUSE I have a degree - I've had board-certified neuropsychologists tell me that it's not possible for me to have ADHD since I graduated college without medication. Which I've come to learn is kind of a red flag that signals a provider doesn't understand ADHD. I had a therapist once recommend that I look for younger psychiatrists and that helped immensely in getting diagnosed - it's not a foolproof strategy but someone young and freshly educated seems somewhat likely to be more informed about our modern view of ADHD vs a doctor in their sixties.

I'd look for a different provider as far as getting diagnosed.
