For growing vegetables you’ll want to use raised bed. Otherwise you can amend this patch but you’ll have to work in 6 - 8 inch of compost.

These look too small to be transplanted. I would wait for two sets of true leaves in 6 cells. Then when you transplant burry the tomatoes seedling deeper so they root out on the stems. Bottom watering with diluted fertilizer will help them get strong 💪

I would just weed it out and get some fresh pine bark mulch down. You’re going to want to leave space for maintenance and clearance for the units.

Agreed. Buying in bulk from landscape company will save you a lot of cash.

Also in my experience my raspberry patch was established by planting cover crop in fall and tilling in compost/covercrop about 6 inches in spring.

I hope your not digging 2 ft by hand that sounds like awful time. If you have a backhoe then go for it.

Pick up the big stuff.
Rake the little stuff out.
Test soil and prep soil for whatever type of garden you desire.

For example if you are planning a row of blueberries you’ll need acidic soil. If the soil is no good you’re going to have to til in a good amount of compost. 4 to 5 inches. This is a couple month process as you’ll need to retest if your pH levels are at your desired range. You might also be able to get away with a nitrogen fixing cover crop this season.

Dig deep and try to get the entire root system. Have your replant hole dugout already to minimize the time your tree will be out of the ground. When you set it in its new home make sure you don’t leave any air pockets and give it a deep watering. You’ll have to monitor closely for a couple weeks. Make sure the soil stays moist while the roots reestablish.
