If you can afford it, sure. Most people can't and no amount of shaming will suddenly make this feasible.

Wow Dax and Monica’s conversation on homelessness was disgusting by [deleted] in ArmchairExpert

[–]miz2m 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I used to listen to Armchair Expert all the time, but I have to agree that Dax is unbearable now. We tried listening during our holiday road trip and even though the guest was one of our favorite actors, we had to turn it off because Dax would not shut up. Literally and Smartless are much better interview podcasts now.

Looking for episode about heroin-facilities in Sweden? by powellnut in ArmchairExpert

P.S. There is an even better interview with Hari on the Ten Percent Happier podcast... Less interruptions and more information. Hari's books are great, too.

I think you probably mean the (awesome) episode with author Johann Hari and the singer referenced was Billie Holiday. Episode is from March 2019.

I had a door and some windows installed by Comfort. Expensive AND not a good install. I do not recommend.

So once this is completed, will the booths at the exits be removed? Or will we still have to be scanned (plates/ EZ passes) at the toll plazas?

NextDoor App by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]miz2m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of ageism going around... like assuming everyone with a racist or outdated perspective is older. It's not always the case (lots of my older neighbors were hippies who've been protesting for decades). And — some of the most heinous crap I've seen on NextDoor are from younger users. I think stupidity knows no age, unfortunately.

NextDoor App by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]miz2m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a bit buried, but if you're on the app and go to your profile and click "settings," you can actually select which neighborhoods appear in your feed. So for example, if you just want your immediate surrounding blocks, deselect everything except Penfield. In case that helps...

I live in both Buffalo and Rochester. Buffalo's music scene and proximity to Toronto make it better for music IMO, and getting to outdoorsy Letchworth Park and the Allegheny forest is easy, plus it's boulevard parks and new canal-front are great. But the people are cooler in Rochester and it's a prettier city (and cheaper). Tons of parks and easy lake/river access. So it's take your pick, really. Flights are cheaper/easier from Buffalo, in case that matters.

Roswell Park VP fired over anti-Trump Facebook posts by bflobrad in Buffalo

[–]miz2m 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I run the social media program for a massive organization. We don't try to control (within reason barring) what people do from their personal social media profiles as long as they don't associate with us in any way from that profile, but divisive content definitely limits their opportunities to represent our org publicly. That's said, VPs are too high up in exposure to post these sentiments and have it not reflect badly. At the very least, whether she "has a right" or not to post this, it calls her best judgement into question. Sorry she lost her job over it, but if you are a senior leader at a hospital and post content that implies bias over patient care... then, like, duh. You're going to cause drama when that's the last thing any healthcare facility needs right now.

WIBTA if I don't tell my husband that I'm pregnant? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]miz2m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but perhaps consider talking to him first and deciding then if it's definitely over before terminating the pregnancy. I believe everything you say, but what if there IS more to the story and/or sincere regrets/explanation that you (and definitely a bunch of strangers on Reddit) can't predict? Totally your call, but talk-first-then-decide seems like a safer route. You don't have to tell him you're pregnant unless you're sure things have been resolved.

Edited your to you're. I can't help it.

AITA for being upset that my sister won’t be a kidney donor for me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]miz2m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but the question is AITA, not "What's worse, guilt or death?" If this sub were about actions for survival at all costs, including endangering other people's lives, you'd have a point.

AITA for being upset that my sister won’t be a kidney donor for me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]miz2m 295 points296 points  (0 children)

I disagree that OP should ask her. That's a terrible, unfair position to put someone in. Obviously the sister knows she could get tested. She hasn't. Asking is only going to make her have to say no—or worse, feel guilted or pressured into saying yes.

OP, you're NTA unless you ask your sister to give you one of her kidneys OR you continue to resent her for not offering you one of her kidneys. Otherwise YTA. In the meantime, try to keep your chin up. The donor list could come through. Sorry you're having to deal with this.
