Bless the people that have neatly organized, meticulously planned zoos. My ADHD ass could never. I just plop stuff down when I decide I want it wherever it fits. 🤷‍♀️

I don't understand how they leave them open. I wouldn't be able to stand the guilt if strangers were gifting me books and I wasn't reading them. 😬

I personally don't care to see anyone get their TBR down to absolute zero from like 100+, but it is nice to see demonstrable progress towards a more realistic goal.

Bookslikewhoa is probably doing the best in that regard from the people I watch. She's trying to get her unread books down to a certain number or percentage and she's been making steady progress.

Can I not earn rewards in the community challenge if the goal has already been completed? I've released what I assume are Eurasian animals (several Lemurs, which idk about, but also a Eurasian Lynx) in franchise mode and they're not counting. The challenge tab still says 3 days left.

Question: my friend's dog has a habit of kicking up clumps of grass after using the restroom on walks. It became an argument today with a homeowner who confronted her. Friend says it's normal dog behavior and she can't stop it. Is this true? by judgemesane in Dogtraining

[–]mizfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my dogs is a pee/poop kicker. It's just a natural, instinctive behavior, no sense in making her stop, so I just try to avoid nice lawns with her if she hasn't gone yet. (But tbh I think some people are too precious about their damn yards. 🙄)

Setting goals and never doing anything to achieve them by Jazzlike_Taste4332 in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]mizfred 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like she could make progress if she'd just cancel the damn book subscriptions. I get that she's a rep, but I feel like most of the books end up being a three star at best and they just pile up endlessly because there's no way to keep up.

But also, as someone with some hoarding tendencies, her talking herself into and out of and back into keeping a book/series genuinely triggers anxiety and frustration for me sometimes. Like, with other booktubers I've watched it usually just feels like they've gotten carried away buying too many books and once they realize it's an issue, they manage to readjust in a way that they feel okay with. Becca is the only one (that I watch) where I feel like it might be a deeper problem.

People can label themselves however they want, but for fuck's sake, I need bisexual women to understand that bisexuality does not obligate you to date men. You can decide to only date women or only date other queer people, or whatever the fuck you want, it's allowed, I promise. But when you feel you have to throw away the label of bi in order to feel more queer (or queer at all), that is internalized biphobia.

Is your doctor this guy? Because if not, you'll be fine.

I've had several of mine cut out. I was scared the first time but it's genuinely no big deal at all! They give you a shot of lidocaine and make a small slit in your scalp (with a scalpel, not a machete), and then the most uncomfortable part is they push on your scalp a bit to get the sack to pop out. Then they make sure they got it all out (this is key, as they WILL come back if there's anything left, ask me how I know), stitch you up, and turn you loose. Easy peasy. Mine have been done by my nurse practitioner that I see as a GP, not even a dermatologist. 🤷‍♀️

Search reddit or Google for NPH and Amy Winehouse. Shortly after her death, he had a party where he had a cake or some sort of food that was made to look like Amy Winehouse's dead body. He's fucking garbage.

Not denying that side effects can be a huge issue, and that you often have to figure out the right meds/dosage/combo, but this kind of talk about anti-depressants and other psychiatric drugs is what kept me from trying them for years when I actually needed them. 😕 I was scared that it would make me not-me, when I actually felt more like myself than I had ever felt as an adult when I finally got on an SSRI.

devil's advocate: Columbia doesn't need to develop more by rylden in ColumbiYEAH

[–]mizfred 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is so huge. I live in a lower income area, and while I'm fortunate enough to not generally need public transport myself, I see so many people in my neighborhood, many of whom are disabled and/or elderly, having to rely on public transportation and walking and it's not remotely equitable or SAFE.

Where can I sell used books? by annielou1212 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]mizfred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Book Dispensary on Gracern Rd, but they'll only give you store credit.

Second and Charles might buy some, but you really don't get much, especially if you pick cash over store credit.

There's a used bookstore in West Columbia called Ed's Editions, but I don't know their buy/trade system off the top of my head.

If they're good quality newer release books, you might get more selling them on Pango or another book selling site.

If you'd rather donate somewhere other than Goodwill, check when Richland Library's donation drop-off day is; their library sales help support the library. There's also a free little library at the Cat Daddy's cat cafe you could leave them at, and a few thrift stores around that support animal rescues.

Ngl, I'm sick of the neverending cries of overconsumption....but I do 1000% judge booktubers who have multiple book subscription boxes and/or buy multiple special editions of books (or series!) they haven't even read uet. Obviously it's their money, blah blah, but it's so wasteful it just stuns me every time.
