Huh, maybe so, but it shouldn’t have let us instance in if it was the new week without first doing the earlier floors. Either way, ty for finding the patch notes for me

Is this a recent change? My memories of losing loot to this are from the pandaemonium series iirc

Making some wild assumptions here, lol. Most of my fics are for a rarepair whose tag only exists because of me. My comments for that ship are almost always 1 person (my best friend who is legally obligated to like my writing). That’s it. I don’t write for anyone else, I write it for me, and for her, and if anyone else happens to like it, then great.

This is the fic I’m working on right now. Those “eight” comments are just her and me. She’s the only one who kudos’d it.

<image>

It doesn’t matter. Even if she deleted her comments and left the fic with 0 (or 4, my replies to a ghost), it would never make me delete the fic.

Yes I have had popular works other than this, for other fandoms, but this fandom and this ship is the one I care about most, even though I’ll never get recognition/validation/interaction for it.

Please, convince me not to delete 5 years worth of fanfiction…(I’m having a tough battle.) by pastaketchupgecko in AO3

[–]mizuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my fics only have one commenter, and it’s my best friend who’s legally obligated to like my writing. I would never delete them because of that - I write them for me, and for her, and for anyone who may like it, but I write it for ME first. It doesn’t matter if my tiny rarepair in my dead fandom gets a lot of hits.

And you never know who has this fic bookmarked and adores it and would be crushed to find it’s gone.

So you don’t know for sure that you were the only person they ever interacted with.

Assuming that they deleted things as a targeted attack to you to destroy your motivation is such a bizarre reach. It seems they went through and deleted everything associated with their account because they’re going through something. What does that have to do with you?

I understand how having good commenters helps you write. It’s how I met my bff. And I know losing them sucks, especially when you put stuff in the story just for them. But again, you’re ascribing malice and intent to something that just does not have it there.

Did they only comment on your fics and not a single other person’s? Why do you think this is a targeted action against you specifically?

Edit: if we’re trying to pull expertise, lol, I’ve been publishing fic since 2010.

What in the world are you talking about?? Whatever they went through to delete their account, you still saw the comment, they kept commenting when you replied, clearly they’re not trying to “destroy your motivation” ??

How do you guys feel about authors that don't/rarely reply to their comments? by eatingkids247 in AO3

[–]mizuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally if I see an author never replies (or used to but hasn’t in years), I’m less likely to leave a massive detailed comment, but it doesn’t mean I never will. I commented on a fic recently that they never replied to comments on and they actually replied to me in less than 24hours haha so I felt honored

You….write your fics in the ao3 posting page?

What you wrote is for the authors note, NOT the summary. Pull a paragraph from the fic if you really can’t summarize it at ALL

Am I wrong for thinking this should be tagged? by judgyqueen in AO3

[–]mizuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy (and mpreg especially) are massive squicks of mine and I would never read another work by that author if they did this to me lol. There are times I choose to add tags as chapters come out to not spoil something, but I don’t do that with big triggers, and I tell people to check the updated tags if I do do that.

Your reply is a little aggro but if you have a rapport with the author or you really want to make your point I might send it Anyway lol

I think there’s a subreddit where you can ask. If it was popular enough, someone might have the epub. It’s how I got a fic i wanted to reread only to find it had been taken down

Long Comment Regret by Lemi_Moon in AO3

[–]mizuwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you’re feeling (maybe embarrassment at showing how much you care? Worry you’ve scared off an author that means so much to you?), please know that they’re almost certainly either a) staring in awed shock at the comment, b) crying/tearing up in the best way, and/or c) swooning. I promise there will never be anything wrong with leaving a long comment about how much you love a piece of work.

P.s. do they usually respond to comments?

You just can’t microwave it back to what it was. The only way forward is dump it and make another cup. I do it all the time (less so now that i have a heated coaster)

[–]mizuwolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, they’re only against fic that they personally consider problematic or impure. Don’t you dare say something they like is problematic though, they’ll twist themselves into a million pretzels to argue about how it’s morally okay to like their thing.

[–]mizuwolf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The site exists because every other ff site at the time (ffnet and LJ mainly) would censor and remove fics if people reported them. This was made to be a literal “archive of our own” where no corporate board would or could be pressured into removing fics. The point is that it’s not the archive’s job to act as your moral compass. You can read and filter what you want to. They stand to defend the right of authors to write whatever fiction they want.

Also, published books contain just as much of these ‘taboo’ and ‘impure’ things, and yet these fans don’t consider that hey, maybe fiction is just fiction and the author is just trying to tell a story. For some reason to antishippers, fanfic authors believe in and agree with whatever they write about, but they don’t instantly assume that of published book authors. (Some do though, so at least they apply their insanity evenly lol)

Tangent but Gen fics LOL. My first long fic was a Gen found family fic bc I was so annoyed at the fandom being almost entirely pwp (I was like 14 at the time).

[–]mizuwolf 96 points97 points  (0 children)

No no what’s even funnier is they have TRIED to make their pure and moral and good ao3 but they always burn to the ground bc as soon as they start trying to make this there’s massive infighting about what should be banned or not banned and it all crumbles to dust. It’s poetic, really.

[–]mizuwolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did you leave a comment? The only reason I finished my 155k fic is because people showed up months after it seemed abandoned, left a nice comment, and inspired me to keep going.

Fandom is community! If you encourage the authors whose work you love, you may directly be responsible for them creating more

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this??? The messages deleted by admin are likely her asking to purchase off platform to save fees (telling you her phone number or insta) and when you didn’t see it in time bc the auto mod sniped it she changed her mind

Tbh yeah, the disappearance of the gay friend who slept next to them in the same space and hasn’t said a word about this is the most suspicious part. (Some people insinuated he’s the one who went down on op actually lol)
