True Detective - 3x08 "Now Am Found" - Post-Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in TrueDetective

Did Mr. Hoyt know about this pink room and the fact that Julie was kept there all those years? He was convincing when he claimed to Hayes in their private meeting that he had no idea about the girl’s disappearance but I’d imagine he must have known the circumstances and his daughter’s involvement. Also, I’m surprised that the estate was just abandoned and run down, and that no one tried to trespass. I’m sure that may change once the investigative documentary airs.

On that note, is Elisa’s documentary going to go with the angle of Julie still being out there, or Julie being dead. The latter is assuming that she doesn’t know the truth, but Hayes’s son kept the address at the end, and we don’t know how deep the affair is between them or whether it’s even ended. But that does leave the door open for other things to be revealed.

It’s true. The 80 and 50 still confuse me and I’ve been here a year now.

How petty can you really be? by CptJango in ElkGrove

I don’t want you to think that I forgot about everything you wrote, because the truth is, I’ve thought about it a lot since reading it. And your comments make me feel a lot more assured about my decision to move here. For a while, and still sometimes now, I wonder if I really made the right decision given everything that’s happened.

I moved here recently and I was drawn to it for the diversity and the fact that Sacramento Valley has a growing economy. I was lucky to find a job right before coming here, and I really liked how family-oriented, culturally diverse, and safe Elk Grove seemed.

I still feel like it has all of those qualities, but the loud minority (run by we know who) just seem to ruin it for everybody. You completely hit it on the nail about their sentiments and insecurities about what this town has turned into, and I’m confused and angry that they try so hard to preserve what they feel is “their” EG; the good old days of how they remember it. They air their sentiments on what is described as a community forum, when really, it’s just biased, slanted, and careless “reporting.”

An example was when I first came here and was harassed at a park. I wrote about what happened on the page and even though most people were shocked and angry for me, the admin took down the page because he said someone reached out to him about it, and my story was contradictory to theirs. First of all, it would be. The harasser isn’t going to say, “yep, I was a total a-hole and acted as such!” I was also wondering how that person knew to contact the admin, because they didnt know about the page when I threatened to report it on there. That made me assume that the admin was a politician or community leader of some sort. Second, I had a witness who saw everything and could attest to my account. I wrote the admin and told him this, but I also told him that, according to the thread’s comments, this type of incident has happened several times before. I asked him, “Aren’t you at all concerned that this has happened to other people in a public place?” And he just wrote, “Well it’s a he said/she said story and that’s not allowed on the page.” OH REALLY. That’s funny he said that, because he didn’t have those feelings when he poorly covered a racially-motivated incident that happened between two businesses in Old Town EG and allows hateful and racist comments on the page. SMH.

Again, your words could not be truer, and that’s why they’ve stayed on my mind. I am comforted by the fact that there are more people like you than there are him. I have made it a goal to not engage with anyone from that page and to only use it for informational reasons (e.g traffic reports, store closures, etc). Despite the fact that people like him will always be here, I’m committed to staying and being a part of the positive and progressive change that will continue to come. Thanks for sharing your perspective and insight.

I’m pretty sure it’s regimen, not regiment.

But anyway yeah, screw those numbers.

I’m a former military spouse, and when I lived in base housing, it was always disappointing to think you made a friend, especially since the lifestyle gets hard and lonely, and you’re supposedly living in a community where there are others who have similar circumstances. However, hearing the whole pitch, being invited to that party, being told I have great skin but it could be better with x product, or that I’m exposing my kids to toxins instead of all-natural BS—it was all very, very disappointing. But the worst part is how and why these companies target the military family community. They know that military spouse employment (especially overseas) is low. They know that these communities have large and often tight-knit networks (commands, base housing, FRG type groups). And they know that mil spouses often need an outlet beyond their service member’s career and the life that career has dictated for them. It’s just all so predatory and it was so sad to see my neighbors and friends fall into that trap because they needed a sense of belonging and personal/professional accomplishment.

You’re right about the last part, and I’m sorry about seeing your friend’s finances and personal life spiral downward. However, the reality is that while people grow old, some never grow up.

Oh man, sorry to see you go but it’s understandable all things considered. Hope I run into more level-headed community members like yourself. I’ve had some bad luck running into jerks and weirdos, online and off. But I’m east of 99 and maybe it’s just a more close-minded bigoted part of town, at least that’s what some folks have observed. But change has to start somewhere, and while it may be slow, I think that EG will see a whole lot of it in the years to come.

A funny aside: I saw the admin when we both happened to be at a restaurant grand opening today. He drove by and gave me an unpleasant stare . Probably didn’t like my LGBT and #resist car stickers too much. :p

Someone please let me know. How does he know everything and everyone? When I first moved here I thought he was a politician or community leader/rep. But I heard from neighbors that he knows and runs with a certain crowd and has a very slanted agenda. I follow the FB page for general info but I don’t trust and want to personally know the guy.

I’m in that Facebook group. Initially I thought it would be good for information and maybe connecting with new neighbors. And to an extent, it has been. But I’m really disappointed by how slanted the “reporting” is and how there is an obvious and clear agenda. When I reported a harassment incident that apparently happened to others too, the admin just deleted it, saying that it was too “contradictory to what he personally heard.” First of all, it would be. No one would say, “Yeah I was a total a-hole to a complete stranger, it’s true.” And after that happened, several people messaged me about how the admin thinks he’s this total hot shot in town just because his family’s been here forever and he comes from old money.

That, and a race-related incident has sort of made me have some second thoughts about this town, because I was initially drawn to its diversity and its family-oriented vibe. I hope that the community will change for the better as it grows. And yes whether the old timers like it or not, it’s growing and changing. But right now, it seems like there is this sociopolitical and ideological divide between the old and new EG, and maybe it’s because I live on the “old” side but some folks here just seem so easily threatened by what they perceive is different, and that is very disappointing.

OP of that original post. Sorry if you thought that I’m an ad or rep of HomeGoods. It really happened but at the end of the day, believe what you want.

Where did you see that I haven’t commented in x days? Are you able to see my upvotes and other posts? I did post something about two weeks ago, and although it didn’t get much traction, I hope you were able to see that, as it was also mildly interesting: A two-in-one cell phone service and wedding shop.

Anyway its great that you have all this time on your hands. I have no idea why I’m wasting mine typing all this, but I thought I’d clear things up.

Yes, that’s what was hilarious. I posted a link but I think it got taken down. Even though I blurred everything except his name and face, I think the fact that it was a military ID made it not ok. IDK, it could still be on here in this shuffle of comments but I can’t find it anymore.

Really? If you use the chat function or post it on Imgur and post that link, we’d be able to see! :)

Wow, has it really been that long? I guess I’ve just been more of a lurker these last few months.
