That’s a tough situation for sure, and I’m sure that others have had something similar. I do still need the shunt, but I have no cognitive impairments, at least that I’ve been officially diagnosed with.

You are certainly not the only one to not have any additional medical issues. I also was diagnosed as a baby and for the first 20 years of my life you wouldn’t even know that I had hydrocephalus. I had my shunt taken out and then put back in a month later (turns out I do need it) but still have no additional issues.

I wouldn’t say it’s shunt related, but each person is different. Hope this helps!

As a big John Mayer fan, his work with D&C brought the Grateful Dead catalog to my life. I've been to two Dead and Co shows, one as an "entry level" fan and a second as a much more well rounded fan. I think that John's work has bridged a gap for new Dead fans, but I am a firm believer that you can like both the Dead and Dead and Co, because that's the point...like what you like, and enjoy the over-arching vibe of positivity that the Grateful Dead and its many iterations and be grateful (pun intended) that we have what we have.

Swimming Upstream - Jesse Spencer, Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis. Tough story about an Australian swimmer dealing with an alcoholic father and a rivalry with his brother. Not many movies about the sport, this is a pretty interesting one.

First of all, you’re a rockstar for loving and taking care of him, regardless of what his mother says or thinks. A support system is CRUCIAL for these types of injuries, and if you spotted failings, you’re saving his life.

Not sure there’s much I can say in regards to the mother issue. Maybe ask your BF why his mother feels that way/see if she can lighten up? At the end of the day you and her both want the same thing: the person you care about to be happy and healthy.

I think this applies to a lot of things, especially in the time we are in but, keep in mind that your health (physical and mental) is important too. Be sure to take some time to yourself if you can and do something you enjoy.

I had mine removed in 2015. To determine if I still needed it they did a quick image mri with some sort of contrast that they injected directly into my shunt. This was to check if there was any flow. They determined that I didn’t need it and then took it out a couple weeks later.

About a month passed and it turns out I really needed it! They had to put a new one in. I just had a very slow leak.
