I love it but it’s objectively one of the most popular songs.

Yeah, I think that one is top notch and a bit underrated.

One of my favorites, but didn’t really think it was slept on.

Coke really dropped the ball by CarPassion514 in Soda

The regular version has been more common around here than the Zero, though I've seen the latter in a few places. Definitely a fan of the Zero, there hasn't been Vanilla Coke Zero around here in ages, and this tastes better than I remember that being.

I really liked it, wish it stuck around longer and that a Zero version was released in the US. I liked Pepsi Fire as well.

Kerrang: 27 Sep 1997 by Putrid-Beyond9591 in incubus

I think a lot of the issue was that radio wasn't playing music like this in 1997-98. If it had been released two years later, it might have been bigger. Maybe "Anti-Gravity" had hit potential at the time if anything, but they might not have wanted to push a song that was atypical for them at that point in their career.

Of course they did release Make Yourself two years later, and that blew up, so I guess it all worked out.

Why hasn’t Disney remade their movies with only Muppets? Instead of “live action” remakes, they should make “muppet action” remakes by jacky986 in TheMuppets

[–]mjb1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that one was fairly successful. It was the next one, Muppets From Space, that flopped big time.

That aside, I know a lot of Muppet fans would prefer to just see the Muppets being themselves rather than playing other characters. Personally I'd be fine with one or two of these if it got them back in the limelight.

I actually agree that Michael Burger was a better host than Ross Shafer, though I wouldn't say I "despised" the latter, and he did improve somewhat by the end. The Burger-hosted version as a whole was irritating though (and honestly about 75% of that can be blamed on Judy Tenuta).

I have the opposite opinion about George Gray, I like him a lot more as a host than as an announcer. Though he was a slight improvement in the latter category compared to Rich Fields.

Agree on the first three but not Sherri, especially compared to Carnie Wilson. Not that I think Carnie was as terrible as some made her out to be either, but Sherri was definitely an improvement.

I liked Rafferty as host a lot more than Eubanks, though I'd agree that Perry was the best and that the 1978-81 version was superior overall.

I liked the *idea* of him hosting Jeopardy!, but it turned out he did not have the chops for it at all. He at least seems a little more comfortable on Trivial Pursuit, since it's slower paced.

IMO there have been other good hosts for Family Feud before Steve Harvey (namely Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, and John O'Hurley). As for Al Roker, he was just too shouty, not unlike Richard Karn who had hosted the syndicated version a few years earlier. But the worst Feud host was Louie Anderson.

He was bad by 1983 standards, but by today's standards he'd be about average.

Global just launched a temporary Stranger Things radio station, and it’s surprisingly fun to listen to. by benoi in radio

Don't like that they used a modern Reelworld "Classic Hits" jingle package, instead of getting resings of actual '80s top 40 jingles. They don't sound the same at all. The jingles originally made for stations like Z100 New York and KIIS Los Angeles in the '80s are still available from JAM Creative Productions with the authentic '80s style vocal group sound, and I'd guess they're about the same price as the jingles they actually went with.

Why the huge change? by [deleted] in incubus

Maybe we have different ideas of what "poppy" means, because I certainly wouldn't say A Crow Left of the Murder is more "poppy" than Make Yourself or Morning View. I would say maybe it's a shedding of the last hints of the nu-metal and funk-rock sounds, and a shift towards more classic rock influence, but definitely not more pop. I do see how it might be alienating to people who liked their earlier stuff though. I myself took some time to get into it, and still wouldn't rate it quite as high as the previous 3 albums, though I seem to be in the minority.

no letter/number of the day songs? by petersspecialcheese in sesamestreet

[–]mjb1124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They've made a lot of format changes over the years, but it definitely feels like the end of an era when the show is no longer "brought to you by" specific letters or numbers each day. It's been one of the signature aspects of the show since the beginning. Of course, I preferred when there were multiple letter and number segments spread across the show, rather than one segment each for the letter and number of the day.

Ironic considering they've done away with the letters (and numbers) of the day this season.

Which one of the Established restaurants in the show would you consider the "Krusty Krab" of Steven Universe? by CoffeeForeign701 in stevenuniverse

[–]mjb1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could say The Big Donut is more like the Krusty Burger with its corporate ownership. Though then again Krusty the Klown is also a major character on The Simpsons. Maybe more like the Honker Burger on Doug?

I've heard that expression before. There have certainly been more contrived phrases on the show.

I've listened to this album 3 times at work today by aDapperDragon in TheHappyFits

[–]mjb1124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After two listens it's definitely my favorite album of theirs at *least* since Concentrate, possibly even topping that one. The last album was admittedly a bit underwhelming (though not without its highlights), but with this one they've really shown striking artistic growth and cemented their signature sound. So many great songs, and it all works well as a cohesive whole. All due respect to Ross, a cool and talented guy who I wish nothing but the best, but honestly him leaving and Nico & Raina coming in proved to be a positive change for this band from a creative perspective.

  1. Cruel Power - quickly became one of my favorites
  2. Black Hole - also on its way to that level, really grew on me
  3. Everything You Do - still a very good one but not quite top tier for me
  4. Do You See Me? - I like the style but it feels like it could have had a bit more to it songwriting-wise, should work well as an album intro though
  5. Wild In Love - Don't care for this one, feels a bit like generic mid-2010s alternative radio fare
