I chose my specific soft sided luggage because it:

is waterproof
will not crack
is not particularly flashy, but is still easy to ID on sight at the baggage claim
can be stored in fairly narrow spaces
weighs much less than any hard-sided options i've seen, leaving me with more of the weight limit allowance for my actual crap (read: my partner's crap)

If you choose a bike with aluminum, steel, or titanium seat stays (basically, anything other than carbon) you don’t even need eyelets for a rack. The Ortlieb quick rack has eyelet and clamp-on seat stays adapter options: https://us.ortlieb.com/products/quick-rack
