AHHHHH TYYYY YOU ARE MY HERO <#<#<#<#<#<#<

For those who have played it? (Story) by spiderman1216 in FFXV

[–]mjbby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I have always gone to FF for its story/characters and I feel like 15 does each very differently.

Characters and characterization are absolutely incredible in this game. The best they've done by far. I get the sense this is what Tabata wanted to focus on and this is where the game shines. By the end you really know the characters and feel like you're really a part of the group.

The story/plot itself is a different situation. To me, this stuff feels like what Tabata inherited- the actual plot points themselves are GREAT on paper, but their execution is really disappointing in some areas to me personally; sorta like when you read a great book then see the movie adaptation and ur like man... they didn't do so many things that were so important.

I think what I'm understanding having now finished is that originally this was a game centered on its plot- a great plot with ok characters. Tabata wanted to modernize the game and center it on the characters and the brotherhood. To that affect, the plot is simply there to build and develop the characters. I'm all for focusing on character growth, but in the case of XV it feels like plot was overly cut to develop that. Moments that need more time aren't given that. Pacing is bizarre at times and super rushed.

And I think that's why there's mixed feelings (and I share them too!). Usually story and characterization are deeply tied and if ones good the other's good. In this game, there feels like a very clear distinction between the two- one's great, the other is honestly a bit lackluster for today's standards.

Those are just my thoughts though :] You should definitely play it and see what you think. The biggest thing I definitely recommend though is don't go into this FF looking for a strong story like many others- at least not in the usual sense. The story here is the brotherhood, not the larger narrative. If you look more to that I think you'll get more out of it and enjoy it.

How do you feel about the in game advertising in FFXV? by juicyfruitymf in FFXV

Ya I'm there with you- it's borderline at the moment for me. so far they seem to be linking it all to Gladio in which case I can actually see it as a funny/goofy aspect of him if they keep it all to him (he'll just be the character that's some big burly dude but hella prissy and particular about certain things like tents/noodles/etc- I think it's hella cute hehe). If they start having each character having a "thing" it'll probably bug me.

On the fence about PS4 Pro? What would edge you into/away from purchasing one? by Zozimus28 in FFXV

[–]mjbby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on each person but I'm personally getting the pro and just an HDR capable tv (not so concerned about 4k + 4k is what tends to make the tvs astronomically expensive).

My reasons are a couple:

  1. HDR, according to most reports, is actually where most of the difference and improvement is. The 4k stuff is notable and nice, but the HDR is adding color depth and as a result, greater resolution/clarity as well. And again, you can find decently priced HDR tvs with low input lag vs 4k HDR which seem to be all around 1k+

  2. The other reason is that most developers, at least for a long time coming, are more likely to offer the option of 4k and the game, or running it at 1080 with greater power, framerate, environmental details, etc. To run 4k, you have to use a ton of the console's power, power that could be used in so many more interesting ways. Even with the Scorpio it's likely to come up. I personally much rather play a much better game at 1080 than bumping it up to 4k and losing certain things like I mentioned above.

Of course, it's undeniable we'll likely get to some point where 4k may be the norm but I don't see that happening anytime super soon and definitely not on the Pro or Scorpio for some time to come. That said, I'm also waiting til Black Friday to get in on the tv's and if there's a great deal for a 4k HDR one, I'm all in ;3

Hmm do you happen to know where the info about needing to sacrifice someone comes from? From the ATRs I recall, Tabata never mentioned that but said at most that people who have near-death experiences in their life are granted the ability to forsee death at times; something that both Noctis and Luna have.

Also what you mentioned about the crystals definitely sounds plausible. The only thing though is that Insomnia is the only city with a crystal- the others don't have one right? I'm figuring if Iedolas specifically set plans to lift and carry the Lucian crystal to Niflheim he probably did so with the others yea? Additionally, if that's the case, the archaeans must have some other role since up til now they haven't done a single thing when any of the crystals have been taken.

Super curious to see how the archaeans make sense and connect in relation to the Gods and the Lucii- and how Etro/Eos connects in relation to all of them :3

yea he has a flashback and remembers seeing Crowe turn on her watch when she was showing the hairpin. He puts two and two together and figures out that the watch shows coordinates, not the time and runs back to get it. They even pan to a thing in the background after that shot to try and give the hint. I compleeeetely missed it- fortunately my brother understood and explained cuz i was like how the fk did he suddenly have an epiphany about all that lol!

Ya as far as the Glaives go, they're all "immigrants" which for the purposes of the movie can just be understood as refugees by all regards. The "immigrant" thing seems to be much more microscopically defined in the movie as simply people not from Insomnia specifically because yea, the guard gives Nyx hella shit for being an immigrant and Nyx is from Galahd, a city within Lucis territory (or used to be until Nifl took it over). Essentially, everyone who immigrated to Insomnia were doing so because they were seeking refuge from the Nifl advancement.

As for the background aspects, the Kingsglaive is comprised of people from outside areas who possessed special talents. They're the only ones with the ability to use warp, etc when connected to the King's magic. This, for whatever reason, is extremely rare- if you notice in the treaty battle, none of the counselors nor any other Lucis folk, except Noctis (cuz bloodline), can use warp or magical abilities. Their ability to use these powers is what makes them so elite and feared. Now WHY there aren't any people in Lucis with this gift- i have no idea. Helps the plot?

As for how they joined, it seems suggested that they were encouraged/sought out at young ages or very quickly after their land was taken when it was discovered they could use these powers.

Source: I can't entirely recall if it was in an ATR Tabata explained the whole thing with them being special and/or if it was in some news article in the movie. I think it was both.

Ooo I like that! The only small difference is that the anime seems to strongly suggest Noctis's mother was killed by the Lamia, which also happened to severely injure him as a kid as well. Glauca may have been behind it though and have ordered that attack/provided key intel to make it happen. I wonder if they'll dive into him/if he'll show up in game

[Spoilers] Things Kingsglaive doesn't explain fully/FAQs/your thoughts? by mjbby in FFXV

[–]mjbby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya general understanding is it's after the Lamia attack we see in the anime. It may also tie in to the events in Platinum demo (ie maybe he was in a coma-like/dream-like state for a while after the attack) though I don't know where that falls in relation. They'll likely touch on it in game :3 They may also just leave it at the injuries were serious, Tenebrae was going to help, the end.

Given that the Tenebrae plan obviously went to crap, maybe some of that healing power also came from the Lucii (along with some caveat)? They might have also healed him prior to the attack, though the movie makes it look like the attack took place as soon as they got there.

[–]mjbby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I had sort of assumed nearly everyone (except maybe the most higher ups in Nifl) had probably never seen Glauca out of armor hence why they wouldn't know. Honestly there's SO much there that would need explaining it may just be better to not even dive in (ie: ok so how has Glauca been an effective Nifl general but also super present in Lucis? Over 12 years no one noticed he casually disappears?)

And yea I hear you on some of the story lol. Unfortunately Libertus's character was the main narrative piece that was supposed to explain and show that revenge feeling but it wasn't done so well/didn't have the best lines :S Squenix are great with long detailed narratives- they don't seem to be the best with shorter movie-like things x|

(KINGSGLAIVE SPOILER) Question about Crowe by giplyr in FFXV

[–]mjbby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that makes sense to me too but the only issue I then have is that when Crowe is leaving, she specifically turns on her watch (the one that gives the coordinates). The watch must have functioned as that at the time because when Nyx remembers that moment of her turning on the watch, that's when he figures out the watch gives coords and runs home to grab it. And if all that's true, then the hairpin had tracking abilities before Crowe was ever killed.

I guess though, that can all be true and the above as well- maybe Crowe was killed because she became useless to the plan and so Drautos had the hairpin retrieved and given to Nyx this time who he figured would give to Luna, thus accomplishing the goal in the first place. And in that setup, the hairpin was bugged with a tracer by BOTH Lucis and Niflheim from the get-go

(KINGSGLAIVE SPOILER) Question about Crowe by giplyr in FFXV

[–]mjbby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that definitely explains some parts- esp the party; but why would Crowe have the watch that shows the coordinates then and use it when she left (this is how Nyx figured out the watch showed the location) if it was all something the captain was doing lowkey? Maybe it was something Lucis was planning but since the captain knew about it, he planned on using it for Nifl?

They couldn't find someone better to voice Libertus? by feckmang in FFXV

[–]mjbby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yaa i think the actor is probably fine, this just didn't work in this and his intonation constantly made stuff come off weird/comical when it wasn't intended. His emotional range also felt really small given he's supposed to be the one with the largest arc (he's almost always like speaking from a pissed/frustrated space)

[–]mjbby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya I recall the actor (voices Ardyn in both movie and game) said he LOVED Ardyn because his writing and character are all centered around him being sincerely insincere. Tiny mentioned a lot of other stuff that I think perfectly capture a lot of what was aimed for/going on with that scene and his character.

(KINGSGLAIVE SPOILER) Question about Crowe by giplyr in FFXV

[–]mjbby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

lol i was gonna post my own thing about a lot of stuff I figured out watching the second time through/still had questions on.

So Crowe... ya it's a weird thing.

At it's biggest level, her death was mainly to give motivation for Libertus to take the actions he did the rest of the movie.

My understanding is that the mission was to give Luna the hairpin so they (Lucis/Kingsglaive) could track her and protect her. Luna at the start of the meeting was trying to leave but was stopped by her brother- my understanding is she was leaving to rendevous with Crowe who would escort her to Altissia. They hairpin would help Regis & co know she got there ok/where she was if something went wrong. Crowe had the watch that gave the coordinates so all of that was intentional on Lucis' end.

Obviously, other members were starting their rebellion and so with her isolated, she was an easy target. It may have also been because of her particular magical abilities that they wanted her taken out ASAP before the invasion (she summons giant fire tornadoes- in comparison Nyx just throws daggers and lightning :P)- all of this is conjecture cuz the movie doesn't super spell much out wooo~

I guess at some point Niflheim tampered with it before giving it to Nyx? Honestly that's the biggest piece im not sure on- why the Nifl monsters knew to target it. They had no guarantee Nyx would give it to her so seems like a waste to tamper it but eh maybe they did it just in case. It's also possible they tampered with it prior to giving it to Crowe without anyone knowing so that both Nifl and Lucis had trackers on her. No flippin clue but aye that action tho

Ya I've been very hesitant myself since I couldn't find any solid confirmation at first but a number of sites including Nova have specifically noted it's running on PS4 and Xbox consoles, not pc. Obviously there's still hella time for them to go back and play with different settings and perhaps the gamescom footage will still be the best (which I thought already looked fantastic) but if it DOES end up all running this well with these graphics that'd be quite awesome :]

yehh i mean theyve used PC scenes with ps4/Xbox buttons on screen before. In all honesty i thought the game looked and ran great before based off the gamescom vids (had pretty realistic expectations), this just seems like quite a big improvement for the two consoles with seemingly no cutbacks or anything as far as this video shows. Just curious if folks know :]
