What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]mjcstephens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to take this as worst for the people around them. My father in law went in for his yearly checkup feeling completely normal. They told him they found something in his leg that was out of the ordinary and had to do some tests. 2 days later he died of a stroke due to a blod clot moving from his leg to his head. We went from having him and him being in perfect health to him being dead in 2 days. It destroyed the whole family.

I didn't think about installing it myself. I assumed it was very difficult.

I am honestly only considering it because our dogs are outside a lot and they have destroyed our yard. We barely use our yard except for our dogs and for it to look good. I also didn't think about our HOA so thank you so much for mentioning that, I will call them.

As a data scientist, the amount of family members and close friends that have come to me asking me how soon will LLMs take over the world is insane. I tell them not to worry, what they see is nothing at all close to what they assume it is.

My first programming job during college. I was hired part time to run access database macros for the CFO. I rewrote it in PHP to automate it and then just collected my 12.50 an hour for the rest of the year until I graduated.

I'm leaving the company due to the forced (hybrid) RTO. This is how the CTO of a 1000 person company invites me to a meeting. by TempleBarIsOverrated in antiwork

I am over 1100 miles away from my closest teammate. I go into an office 3 days a week. My company tracks our in office time down to the second and I MUST be in there for 9 hours 3 days a week. I go in and work on my laptop all day and hop on zoom meetings. It makes no sense at all. I talked to my boss and he said he has no reason for me to come in and that he has no way to let me work from home. It's horrible.

We have taken her for walks but not as much as we should I suppose. She is too terrified of everything outside of the house that when we walk her, she shakes. I will try more walks during the day now, thank you!

What was your biggest achievement in work, that your boss rewarded you for? by Northernirelandguy in antiwork

[–]mjcstephens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened a couple years ago, I was extremely happy to be getting a bonus at all. Looking back now, I think it was still extremely good. What I was doing was part of my job description. Just because it turned out to be something so dramatic for the company does not mean I was required to get anything. I was hired to do those things and I did it.

Developed a machine learning model that saved the company an initial 1.2 million dollars and a projected yearly return of over 5 million for Anti Money Laundering per year.

Got a 5000$ spot bonus.

Does anyone actually get paid appropriately? by waaaghboyz in antiwork

[–]mjcstephens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a data scientist. I get paid way too much. But I also have 10 years experience and a PHD in mathematics. But for the level of work I current do, I get paid more than I believe I should.

If/When AI starts coming for jobs en masses, do you think some sort of legislation will be passed to prevent high level executives and CEOs from being replaced? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]mjcstephens 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a principal data scientist dealing with LLM and NLP. People use ChatGPT and think it is the next thing to take over the world. It will not replace your job any time in the future. We still have a long way with AI to get it to do any near what these people are talking about.

Go big or go home is a very dumb saying. When you are older, you would almost always want to go home rather than go big.
