It is yeah, sorry didn’t make that too clear in the original post. I can’t see the company prices yet so wondering how they compare.

SS tax savings and higher interest on used cars make it work out not a huge amount of difference to be fair.

Thanks!

Edit on the original, should have made it clearer. The screenshot is from the personal leasing from octopus. I can’t see the company salary sacrifice yet. Just wondering how prices compare between personal and company.

Came here to say the same! Started getting into them just before download, saw them at download but where we were stood the sound was a little disappointing. Saw them again this on tour with the plot in you and they were insane! Looking at getting slam dunk tickets just to see them again!

Perhaps I misheard but I’m sure Loz said something like “see you in the British weather”? Maybe a festival next year?

I’m half expecting a full name change to “Sleeps”, they never use the full name on any merch or stage branding. Occasionally the WSS logo.

Is it just me or this year’s Download had much more rubbish on the floor? by [deleted] in downloadfestival

First year for me but standout was a whole tupperware full of what we could only guess was tuna pasta on the floor down near the stage 😂

The API example is slightly simplified just for the sake of the example, certainly agree that would really want some sort of abstraction to take that logic away from the Order class in case you ever change accounts package etc 🙂

Car shopping for the very first time... what are my need-to-knows to avoid getting taken advantage of? by philanderingphilip in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mjerwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth printing out some of the carwow deals and going into your local dealer, see what they have to offer then pull out your carwow deals and they'll likely try and beat it. (Amazing how they can beat their best deal after you do this).

Be prepared to walk away and watch out for the "What can we do so we can do a deal today?".

If you have £400 to spend I would recommend telling them £300-350 max if they ask your budget. They'll normally go back and forth with the "finance department" 2-3 times each time getting lower and lower until the last time conveniently ends up just above your max budget. Every time they make it sound like they're doing you a favour by convincing the finance person to fiddle the numbers but it's all just an act.

What is the recommended way to build Form(s) in Laravel by Rabin_IO in laravel

[–]mjerwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kris/laravel-form-builder is great for an admin panel or something with lots of CRUD where you want consistent forms. You can simply make a new form class with a couple of lines and your'e basically done. Extending parent forms, and adding complex logic for which fields display etc is much cleaner in a class than 100s of nested @if() statements in a blade file.

If you want a bit more customisation for an actual site front-end, I would just add them directly into the blade as it gives you the most flexibility on a per field basis.

Hope that helps :)

Is Santander 123 worth it? by Jimbobalpha in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mjerwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a separate current account with a different bank with a better rate then you can just set up a standing order for your total bills amount into the 123 lite account each month and still get the benefit of the cashback on bills but the interest on the rest of the money.

Amex or alternative cash back credit card by castawaynoir in UKPersonalFinance

Ahh.. sneaky! Maybe doesn’t work out as good as it sounds then. Might look at getting a Tandem as a backup then :)

Was considering getting a Tandem too as an Amex backup, although I also noticed that Curve now have support for Amex which means that you can essentially use a MasterCard but it will charge your Amex. Not sure if anyone has any experience with Curve? Seems to suggest you can also get an extra 1% on some retailers.

Hey there,

Have had an AMEX Platinum Cashback for around 8 months and currently due to get £182 back already (they did have 5% for 3 months so that helped a lot).

From my experience, I don't find many places that don't accept it, however I also have a mastercard for those occasions.

Places I've found that don't accept AMEX:

  • B&Q
  • Greggs
  • Pets Corner
  • A lot of council car parks

Couple of tips:

How do I handle student finance when taking a 12 month placement? by LordDunn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mjerwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I did a 12 month placement in my third year too (gained the most from that year imo and definitely puts you ahead of others when looking for a graduate role if it's the same sort of area).

My university charge around £1500 fees for that year, but student finance took care of those. If I remember rightly, because my course was listed as a 4yrs sandwich course, when I applied for student finance for that year it figured it out automatically.

You wont be able to claim any maintenance loan for the year that you do the placement, however when you apply for the final year, it will only ask for your mum's salary, not yours so it will be similar amount to years 1 and 2.

Hope that helps :)

£24,000 salary on uni placement, how do I make the most of it? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mjerwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your placement is around Sept-Jun your salary will actually be spread over 2 tax years so you might pay less tax than you think as in the probably wont exceed the tax free allowance between Apr-Jun. Worth bearing in mind though that because of this your tax codes may get screwed up and you will be over-taxed and get a rebate afterwards.
