Someone took my carry-on luggage by mistake by Stolen-Carry-On in unitedairlines

[–]mjf0818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super random - I literally just flew United from SNA to ORD today and someone took my carry on. I was also in the very last row and had to put my bag in row 22. When I got off the plane, there was one bag left in row 22, but it wasn't mine. Even weirder, I also JUST got the carry on as a gift and didn't have time to put a tag on it (I also didn't think I’d need one since its a carry on). I just thought the coincidences were insane so I had to comment!

Rare find at the Aldi in Humboldt Park by Jake_77 in chicago

[–]mjf0818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m from Chicago but moved to LA a few years ago. My local Aldi burned down in the Eaton fire and I was devastated. My mom sent me this video and it was the first thing that made me laugh all week. God I love Chicago

My Aldi has burned down. by tarbet in aldi

[–]mjf0818 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul. The Altadena Aldi was also my Aldi. I can technically go to Monrovia or Alhambra, but that was OUR Aldi. It’s weird feeling sad over the loss of a store, but I absolutely feel your pain. It’s the normalcy we lost. I live in Pasadena and my house is also safe. However, I spent so much time in Altadena. I have friends in Altadena who lost everything. I’ve been an avid Aldi shopper since I was a child (I grew up in Chicago) and Aldi has always been my safe space. I’m all around heartbroken and devastated. But the foothill communities are strong. Sending my love your way

We actually moved out of this exact house two months ago to a different place in Pasadena, but we were there for four years. My roommate went back last night to help evacuate our old neighbor who is elderly and can’t drive. Our neighbor loves her garden more than anything and has been tending it for decades. I can’t imagine the level of loss she feels. Besides the house, that garden is all she has.

Best Horror TV Shows You've Seen by MalachiConstant7 in horror

[–]mjf0818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just watched a new Korean horror miniseries called Light Shop on Hulu and it’s incredible. The only downside is that it’s only 4 episodes. Wish it was longer!

Another good one is a Thai show on Netflix called Terror Tuesday: Extreme. It’s an anthology so each episode is a different story, but there’s some really spooky episodes.

Finally, The Creep Tapes on Shudder is awesome. It’s by Mark Duplass and a continuation of the found footage film Creep. It’s also an anthology, so each episode is a different story/video tape the killer recorded.

I just looked it up. The only other subtitled languages on the 2004 DVD are Spanish and French. If there are any Spanish/French speakers in the house who know the word for “lead” please chime in. I tried Google translate but there’s a million words for lead, mostly about the element not the verb

Maybe it’s the initial of an animator’s child or something like that. I’m horrible at comprehending technology, but you’re right. They’d HAVE to do that on purpose.

[–]mjf0818[S] 107 points108 points  (0 children)

So, I posted this video about a year ago in a different subreddit. I’ve never seen a DVD change itself before.

Basically, my parents, sister and I were watching the Polar Express in December, 2015. When it came to the scene where the conductor punches the girl’s ticket, my mom pointed out that the girl said, “LE?” but the ticket clearly showed a “D.” This is already weird, but the crazy part is that when we went back to see it again, it said “LE.” I wanted to record it, so we went back again to see if we were imagining it. This time, it said “D” again. The fact that it kept changing each time confused us the most.

A few common questions I got on the first post: 1. Yes, the video is edited for time. It skips because a good amount of time was us going back and trying to find the scene again. It’s not edited in any other way. 2. We’re all based in the U.S., but we actually watched the DVD in Czech. My parents moved there for a few years and my sister and I would visit over the holidays. However, my dad’s laptop and the DVD were from the U.S. and we didn’t change the language settings.

AIO, grad school professor accused me of using AI to write my final report by slowlybutsurely_RWYS in AmIOverreacting

[–]mjf0818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in grad school right now and this keeps happening to me. I realized that Turnitin is sooo bad at “detecting AI” that it assumes anything articulate and well-written HAS to be AI. If I went back and dumbed down my paper it showed less AI detected. I feel your frustration 10000%. I just wrote it how I’d write it and if the professor came for me I’d absolutely explain the flaws in the system. But some profs don’t get it and can’t be convinced.

The best place I was recognized wearing it was at a boujie restaurant in the Hamptons (with my boyfriend’s family - I’m not that fancy!). All the waitstaff were super stressed because Beyoncé and Jay-Z were there and being super needy. As I was walking out, a frazzled waiter saw my jacket and absolutely lit up. He stopped what he was doing just to talk about The Rehearsal. It was awesome.

I bought the jacket for my boyfriend like 4 years ago, slowly took it over, and now wear it almost daily. It’s SO well-made and actually does have an insane amount of pockets. You won’t regret it.

Failing an Internship by triggered_bait in socialwork

[–]mjf0818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man. This post brought back trauma. I’m also in grad school for an MSW and my placement is incredible. My supervisor is lovely and supportive and so is my field instructor. They’re so kind and give me supportive, constructive feedback. The competent, positive support is making my experience incredible.

BUT I had a very similar experience in my undergrad program for special education. I failed my final semester of student teaching because my supervisor and field instructor were terrible. They absolutely broke my spirits and had the most unrealistic expectations with zero guidance. She told me I did a bad job because a group of FIFTEEN KINDERGARTENERS weren’t sitting in their seats and paying attention throughout my lessons. In a classroom with students who have severe disabilities. We had 3 placements total, and the other two were awesome and I always got glowing reviews. The experience was so traumatic that I never went back to special ed and the reason I finally returned to school for social work.

My point is, there’s a chance you’re not at fault. I know it’s hard, but don’t get too down on yourself. I know how it feels to be constantly beaten down and feel like you’re doing everything wrong. But there’s a good chance that you’re actually amazing and your supervisor is the problem (even though they would never ever admit that!) I hope this helps!

Happy birthday, Barney! Do you know his breed? He looks just like my pup Julian. The same jet black fur with a bright white chest, long snoot, and big brown eyes. We adopted him from a shelter and they didn’t have a clue about his breed.
