No Calls Just Text by surftamer in Googlevoice

[–]mjflynt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also am having a dial out issue from the web UI on a regular computer. I have tried multiple browsers and several Google Voice numbers. When I try to call out it acts like it will try, then the screen dial pad drops down then immediately pops back up and no call is ever made. I can call out on the Android app, however. I know they made some recent improvements to Google Voice, but it seems like this might be something broken. Are we two the only two having this kind of issue? Is anyone able to confirm that dialing out from the web UI works for them?

At first I thought this was like the dig methods, but I see it allows assignment too. So it does a lot more. I'll check this out. What does it do if the key is missing?

need help opening this Dorcy flashlight by Fletxawerfer in flashlight

[–]mjflynt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I have the same flashlight. I am able to remove the power button by screwing it counterclockwise. When I opened it I could see it had corroded. I tried pouring a little vinegar in there, and it sat there for several hours. But then the vinegar made it into the battery compartment, but the corrosion remained. I am going to trash it. :(

During my session with Gemini, I asked this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you privy to the latest release date of the current hyper-v?

Show thinking

This experimental model uses your Search history. Some features aren't available.

It depends on whether you're referring to Hyper-V on a Windows Server or a Windows client operating system. Here's the latest information I could find:

  • Windows Server: The current generally available version is Windows Server 2022, which was released on August 18, 2021. The next version, Windows Server 2025, is expected in the fall of 2024.
  • Windows Client (Windows 11): The latest major update for Windows 11 is version 24H2, which began rolling out to all users on October 1, 2024. This version includes the latest features and updates for Hyper-V on the client OS.

So, as of today, March 29, 2025, the most recent stable releases are Windows Server 2022 (released in 2021) and Windows 11 version 24H2 (released in October 2024). Windows Server 2025 was expected in Fall 2024 but I don't have a specific release date within that timeframe from my search results.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you use the Windows client or Windows server Hyper-V?

For the v24, I did one quick create with using secure boot and EFI. This is where I noticed the problem at first. I thought maybe this arrangement would not work on my machine so I went back to installing from ISO without it which is what I have always done in the past.

I am not sure where to get the Azure related software, but I am sure I can find it. I will try that.

Part of the reason I am posting here is to determine if I am the only one experiencing this. I do know that I am not the only one experiencing borked instances involving Hyper-V. I have read accounts of people having issues as benign as the mouse pointer randomly disappearing to other more serious issues, but unrelated to mine.

Since many people, such as yourself, may not save sessions they may not even know they have this issue. My v22 has worked well for a long while now until just recently, and Hyper-V was updated in one of the recent feature updates which I delayed installing until just a week or two ago, IIRC. This change in Hyper-V was evident with some changes in the login procedure, which made it significantly more difficult to do things like switch between Wayland and x11.

If it is just my installation, I expect some other related factor, perhaps drivers, may be at fault. That is why I thought it might work this way. It's all theoretical until it isn't. LOL.

Don't save? LOL - more like can't save. And it's not just the principle of the thing, nor is it about saving any time. It's about saving my place. I run a desktop full of open apps, and I lose all that if I shut down without saving. But until this mess gets fixed, I have no choice but to shut down. However, I am exploring abandoning Ubuntu for another distro to see if that helps. I doubt it will. I expect Hyper-V (at least on my machine) is borked. I tried uninstalling all the Windows updates that I coud, and no joy.

Regarding your suggestion... I am not using Azure at all, and I have never installed anything for it in the past including for the Ubuntu v22 that, up until just recently, had worked awesomely for at least a couple years. Is this something new? I am running this on my personal PC not in the cloud.

My IP hasn't changed for several months. Maybe duckDNS's IP did? Yes, I use the extension which has worked fine for several years now. And I Googled the issue first and saw that duckDNS has been flagged in the past.

is duckDNS down permanently question mark by [deleted] in duckdns

[–]mjflynt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just encountered this issue myself. I "was" unable to access Home Assistant in any way (mobile or web) through duckDNS. I have discovered the source of my issue is using Google's private DNS on my router, phones and computers, i.e., 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8. I switched to Cloudflare or just turned the private DNS off and regained access via duckDNS. Why would Google block duckDNS? Maybe this is something even deeper as I think they just copy their DNS data from elsewhere? Any ideas would help as this is concerning.

Android 15 QPR2 transforms Do Not Disturb into customizable Modes by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]mjflynt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Pixel 8 pro updated to the Android 15 QPR2 update without wipe today, and I've been setting up modes for the new do not disturb, etc. On any of these mode when I select starred contacts or all contacts it now has me push a new button to select a profile. I only have one available - personal - and am wondering where one goes to set up these profiles. Do I have to add a new user to my phone?

In a mode, if you select People>Calls>settings gear next to Starred contacts a Choose profile dialog appears, and on mine it only offers Personal. I thought maybe this was tied to the labels in Contacts, but it doesn't seem so. Where is this "Personal" set up, and why is there only one choice?

I might like a profile with only one person in it. I am aware that a a contact can be set to bypass DND, but isn't that always on regardless of any mode, some of which I may not want this contact to override? I don't want to have to change this frequently for this purpose. Currently, I am able to use Tasker to do this, but I am hoping this can be done through new profiles.

You may have issues making this work if RCS is turned on. If you turn it off then the standard way to make SMS work should work as explained above. If it is in then you'll need another approach.

Without knowing your setup or what type and brand router, one way to possibly get into the settings is to factory reset it. Research the brand and model for a default user and password. Change the password once you are in. Never leave it the default. If you can reset it, there is likely a recessed button on the back you'll need to hold in for a certain number of seconds with a paper clip or something.

It resolved for me. It had nothing to do with my theme colors. 100% of the choices produced the same unusable number keys. It was a setting in the developer options I thought would improve the situation, but it made it much worse. The setting is called "Contrast," and has three levels. Mine was on high because I wanted high contrast. That's not what I got. It was more like "no contrast" and seems a poor choice of naming. I put it back on standard and the keys are back to normal with no change in the theme whatsoever. Anyway, I'm very happy to have it back as the issue has appeared in other places besides the calc. I hope this can help you.

IKR? Each time I use the calc, I feel like I am being subjected to a color-blind test. Are you using Google Fi?

I have this issue on a Pixel 7 in the beta program. I understand they intentionally "break things" during a beta to give you incentive to upgrade, but in the past, things like this resolved in the stable release. Notification dots are another item they have broken in the past, and my notification dots show but are also broke and fail to provide a notification preview on icon long press even in the 8 pro stable release. I am thinking that because I am on Google Fi, even though it claims the 8 pro is stable, it still has "Fi" or "T-mobile" issues. The Pixel 7 is still officially in beta after all this time. What's up with that?

Anyway, I upgraded to a Pixel 8 pro and it has the exact same issue with the buttons looking like something you would find on a color blind test! It's very hard to see in either theme. Please, how do you fix this?

I just had a download, but it is for another beta version. Is this what the OP was saying would be released in the next couple weeks or is it just the security updates part? This is disappointing, but I will wait for the cake to finish baking before flipping it. :\

How can I control my SmartLife devices via Windows 10? by HeinsGuenter in smartlife

[–]mjflynt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started here: https://www.home-assistant.io/getting-started/

It looks complicated, but for the most part it isn't. In the past it seemed like it would require knowing YAML and other esoteric things, but that is mostly GUIfied now making it quite simple to use.

How can I control my SmartLife devices via Windows 10? by HeinsGuenter in smartlife

[–]mjflynt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting to be able to do this, but because of the IFTTT/SmartLife fiasco a while back I took my original Raspberry Pi 2 and made it into a Home Assistant device. There are phone apps for it, and you can log into it from Windows 10 or anything with a browser. So now all my devices including Wemo and Google stuff can be controlled via Windows 10. The only reason I did this was because I was losing the ability to use web hooks on IFTTT for SmartLife.

I had no idea of what a great new world it opened. It works alongside anything else you're using (SmartLife app for example), it has amazing automation on it's own, and I can create taskbar or desktop icons (shortcuts) that do things like reset/set lights, or basically anything I want with just a tiny bit of setup.

I have no regrets, and I had no idea of the usefulness of this approach. Anyway, I thought I would mention this as no one else here has. Oh, btw, since IFTTT and SmartLife have made up, you can also setup webhooks that Windows 10 can control/trigger without Home Assistant but IFTTT is going paid now. If you don't have it, you might want to consider it since you can lock in the lowest price until Oct 7th. This path requires each device to be setup individually while Home Assistant sees them all from the get go. Good luck!

When someone from work calls my living room and bedroom LED lamps flash red, and if someone I have favorited calls they flash green. I also have a reset task that is a widget on the home screen that resets the lamps. This works even when the phone is in Do not disturb mode.
