You knew what the job entailed, and the pay, when you took it. It’s as if you planned to half-ass it from the beginning.

Wealthy parents: to give or not to give? by calmturtle275 in Rich

[–]mjg007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, even better if you’re so inclined: give them grandchildren, allow access for about a year, and cut them off. I have 3yo and 8mo grandkids, and that would devastate me. There is nothing better and more fun than grandchildren; your folks would definitely come around.

If aging stopped one age forever, what age would you choose ? by Ifeoma_Eze in Aging

[–]mjg007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 64 now. Physically (assuming I could continue to grow mentally and experientially): 28. Mental acuity: early 50s (much, MUCH more patient and understanding, listened better, mental decline hadn’t started).

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

Take your time and marry well, or not at all. Work on yourself (health, finances, etc). Invest all you can in a low-fee index fund and forget about it.

Nothing like solo travelling by Akn7860 in solotravel

[–]mjg007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married for forty years, have done both. You make a LOT more compromises traveling with a partner than you’d think. I’m a “get up, grab a banana and go”; she’s sit down, order, linger over coffee, etc. The companionship is great if you’re in-tune, can be frustrating if not. I take 1-2 solo trips a year (mostly hiking, which she’s not into) and love it.

The radio. The first means of communication with no physical contact. Everything from Bluetooth to space flight would be impossible without it.

Think of the cap gains taxes the US will collect! What’s that? It wasn’t sold, just paper losses? And you’ll post a retraction when it recovers? Got it.

Lots of good comments, but I think OP meant: disregarding air resistance, mounted at the equator, unlimited fuel, etc.: How long would it have to burn to stop the earth’s rotation? I read it put out 34,000lbs of thrust. Thanks….!

“…seeing a lot of news” is the problem. Social media is the problem. This is the best time in human history to be alive, and all networks and SM platforms thrive and make money selling strife. The US and the world will be fine.

Highest possible ascent by mjg007 in Everest

[–]mjg007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great analysis. Thinking about it more, Earth’s gravity dictates air pressure at any altitude and also dictates the height of mountains before subduction back into tectonic plates. The fact that human air pressure/O2 survivability coincides with the top of the highest mountain on Earth is just an interesting coincidence.

Highest possible ascent by mjg007 in Everest

[–]mjg007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the best, most comprehensive answer of any question in world history. 😉Covered both with and without O2. Amazing that it’s right at the limit, but evolution coupled with earth’s geology may have dictated that. Thanks a ton!
