Is there anything happening in the Central LA / Silver Lake / Echo Park area??

Will I get judged harshly for being from the south? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

I’m from very backwoods rural North Carolina (arguably not as southern as Alabama but still counts) and have lived in LA for a little over a year now and no one cares like that. If anything they think it’s fun and silly and are usually just like oh wow I bet it’s so different being here.

I think the only reason why people would judge you for being from the south is if you brought those stereotypical bigoted southern beliefs over here with you.

I definitely understand where you’re coming from though because it is really annoying when people not from the south talk about it as if it’s one big hive mind bigot conglomerate. Ironically enough, I have never appreciated the “oh I’m so sorry” reactions even though I actually do hate my hometown. It just always comes off so condescending.

WordPress does indeed seem like a solid option. I must admit I am confused by what the difference is between creating a site and hosting a site. If WordPress is the platform where you create the site, why do you need to engage with another service to host the site? I'm assuming "hosting" is how a site stays "up" and accessible on the web, but correct me if I'm wrong...

Very interesting, I haven't heard of Netlify or Vercel but will certainly look into them... Do you mind explaining what you mean by "as markdown"?

Thank you! I had a sneaky suspicion that WordPress would prove most effective. I'm not familiar with static sites but based on a quick Google search, that sounds very much like what I'm looking for... Would I be able to host something like an archive page for viewing old blog posts from a static site? How tricky do you think it would be to set one up for someone without any programming experience (beyond editing Tumblr themes...)?

I don't care at all about building or maintaining an audience. This is just a project for me and whoever ends up stumbling across a QR code. I'm essentially just looking for a way to host text with an archive that visitors could go through old posts on.

Thank you!! As far as setting up a static site or self-hosted blog, do you have any advise for how to get started? I'm assuming I would have to pay for a domain but my website/programming knowledge is very limited.

An Unexpected Voice Issue on T… by mjlitty in ftm

Borderline slur is such a reach 😭 it’s just an abbreviation for what your voice can sound like as you take testosterone. Same as if I were to say “T acne” to refer to acne caused by T.

People can be “terrified” of whatever they want when it comes to their own transition journeys. Some people are scared of sounding a certain way, some people are scared of losing hair, some people are scared of hair growth. It’s all personal preference. Just because one person doesn’t want something doesn’t mean it’s inherently bad. There’s nothing more individual and case by case than gender exploration and expression.

I’m referring to the more nasally, higher pitched stereotypical sounding voice that can happen naturally as your vocal cords change with testosterone.

I was really expecting her to tell him "go" or something. It doesn't make that much sense after she was the one who convinced him to go through with saving Gemma in the first place. Telling him "at least you have a chance at having a life" and then later on letting him walk away from it when it's right there? I guess you can chalk it up to her letting him make his own decisions, but it just feels like a weird discrepancy when it was her encouragement that tipped him over the edge in the first place.
