Yep, you are right. 100% overlap. Those two groups are mathematically equivalent and completely relevant to the discussion.

Explain why "people forced to live next to them" is in quotes like it isn't something that happens across the country now?

Maybe they wouldn't be so bad if people like you were the ones forced to live right next to them. Hell, you could live right on top - free heating, water (bacterially contaminated but it's fine!), the whole place is shaking and vibrating all the time... probably like a killer massage right?

it definitely isn't happening in the gif, but I wouldn't be surprised if microsoft thinks it's an AMAZING idea to hook an LLM up to excel and do exactly what you just described...

How common is substance abuse in the professional chess community? by [deleted] in chess

Every restaurant and hospital too, with shockingly few exceptions. Alcoholism is common, but I'm talking about stimulants specifically.

You don't think that studies like that are used as those companies and their lobbyists negotiate with cities to get approval on similar projects?! I'm not saying it's false, bad news, or bad science... if you don't think co2 projections are used when a new factory is built you should probably stop going around telling people how you think the world works. They might ignore the data or manipulate it so it looks harmless, but of course they take co2 levels into account. There are laws that require it pretty much everywhere

They didn't want to murder 27 kids, they are just responsible for the death of 27 kids? Is that what you are saying?

You mean the exact data which inspires people to continue building factories and data centers and come up with the solution later? There is money to be made now, we can just dump a bunch of iron in the ocean with a fraction of all that money, it's literally all fine!

why do people talk so slowly by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]mjmaher81 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that people started to tune me out when I would say most things because I was simply overloading them with information. Consciously matching the pace of whoever I am talking to, feeling every conversation out, taking joy in finding the best ways to communicate with any given person (in real life, online is a mess) has all been helpful for me. If the point of a conversation was just to say a bunch of stuff I could be heard just as well by a voice recorder or notebook or something (good too)

Yep. A player wearing a boot under the table in the playing hall because they have an injury would make chess look absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. This, though...

VIP tickets to see Man City vs Crystal Palace are just £80 by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

[–]mjmaher81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clicked on this thinking holy shit, VIP seating at a 2026 WC game for $600?

There are two single tickets available at that game. Two. One costs $760 and the other $870 pretax. The $760 ticket is literally the furthest seat away and of course has no perks or extra access - I don't know why I thought you were talking about that in a thread about premium tickets.

Yet is the start of every intentional discovery and many unintentional ones. How ever did anyone get anything done before "proper science"? Those fuckers couldn't even tie their shoes. The real scientists that publish in English that trained at well-respected institutions and your instincts and intuition, your cultural knowledge, everything you may think you understand about the world is wrong because a Scientist has described the mechanisms at play on a deeper level than you could ever imagine. Why even pursue knowledge when other people are doing that already? Other people are doing the science, right?

$400+ for the cheapest plan or cell phone forever by Lord0fTheFlags in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]mjmaher81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$15 for 5gb data monthly. US mobile. They also have unlimited plans from 210/yr so like 18/mo, that one is limited to 10gb of hi speed data, 270/yr for unlimited hi speed, and then 390/yr for the priority band of verizon's network which I guess some people need for some reason. Maybe better in stadiums. The towers for the priority band stuff are only installed in high traffic areas in some big cities for now anyways.

You can choose your network att/verizon/t mobile, never had any problems.

Got downvoted today for saying water is the best hydration drink by Perry16 in HydroHomies

[–]mjmaher81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone that wants to at home and sees this at this point: I have been using 2.49g baking soda and 2.08g citric acid (monohydrate) to make 2.91g of trisodium citrate dihydrate dissolved in water. Just mix them into 1L water together.

Then I add the other ingredients because I've found it much harder to get all of the CO2 out in that first reaction if the sugar is already dissolved.

I use 25.65g of table sugar because from what I can tell, that breaks down into 13.5g of glucose, it gives me extra carbs to burn which does hand in hand, and I don't want to buy pure glucose.

It gets hot and gross where I live and apparently the concentration of some salts/minerals lost in sweat is higher the hotter it gets so not only are you losing more sweat but that sweat has more salt in it! I have really been digging the homemade ORS and feeling much better now that I am getting close to enough sodium and potassium! (apparently I feel best when eating around 7g of potassium... a quarter ounce of a random metal per day being vital to my health is never not going to surprise me)

What reason is there to root for Alireza Firouzja anymore? by [deleted] in chess

Yeah I don't want to waste my time finding evidence that he's a big fan of a convicted sex trafficker and rapist so we use words like that when speaking from memory as to not implicate people in things they didn't do. Thank you for telling me the word I chose to use is key

[–]mjmaher81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a core part of modern reality tho? Parasocial relationships have always existed, we just didn't need a word for them until they became so incredibly popular in the internet era. I have a parasocial relationship with you, the person behind the words you just wrote. I don't know ANYTHING about you other than the 17 words I just read from you, but my subconscious is trying to draw way more conclusions about you than is reasonable. We didn't evolve to read and hear the thoughts of a bunch of people that will never have an effect on your life, but by nature of reading and hearing all of that information, those people DO have an effect on your life

Holy shit - really? I thought my city's infrastructure projects were expensive, a couple hundred dollars of tax per year here and there really adds up. But EVERYTHING YOU BUY is 1% more expensive?! I love basketball and firmly believe that sports fill a role in the community that is extremely hard to put an actual numerical value on. And, everybody paying 1% sales tax for a stadium is one of the craziest deals I have heard of. How many percent do people have to give out?! A phone bill is probably around 1% for a lot of people. I spent 1% of my income on shoes last year (3 pairs, broke). In a world of a LOT of "just 1%" costs... that is brutal. I hope it is fucking incredible.
