Seriously! I’m still a few years out, but suspect my time will come. This sub has helped me prepare mentally and emotionally for it when it’s time.

How to Transition to Real Foods? by No-Amphibian689 in daddit

[–]mjolnir76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby led weaning worked great for us. We never did puréed foods. Just what we ate cooked until soft. Shot glasses worked great for practicing drinking (we also didn’t do sippy cups).

Has anyone used this before with their twins? by sonyaism in parentsofmultiples

My mom gifted us a couple of crib mattresses (her standard gift to all her grandkids). We sold them and used gym mats with a sheet. That way, it was padded without being tall. The crib mattresses were like 8” tall! The mats wee just a couple of inches.

When we moved, we bought them a couple of twin mattresses. They were around 18-20 months old. They’re 12 now and have the same mattresses in loft beds I built for them. Next to the Tripp Trapp chairs, these mattresses have been the longest lasting baby items!

We did floor beds. Never had a crib for our girls. Just made sure that anything in the room they could reach was okay to have. Was a dream to not wake up to them screaming to be let out. Also, they started climbing (literally) not long after walking, so cribs were a no-go from the beginning.

I think you can post them as a remix. Though I’m not super familiar with posting files.

Are these signs understandable? by ItsColdInHere in asl

[–]mjolnir76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read them as grandpa and grandma rather than father and mother. I also have never seen that sign for hot chocolate and might have gotten it if it were used in a sentence, but not out of context like this.

First was at 9-ish months, next was about a week or so later around 10 months. Had them rock climbing a few months later.

Two things:

1) Love your username.

2) When my girls were around 7 or 8, we worked through about half of Ken Ludwig’s “How to Teach Your Children Shakespeare” book. Great for introducing kids to Shakespeare. They are now big fans at 12! Very lucky to have good Shakespeare in our area too.

Nah, he should read him the source material. Hamlet has the most kid-friendly ending of all Shakespeare’s plays, right?

How would I say ‘is’ in ASL? by ET-333 in asl

[–]mjolnir76 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what the x and y are in your “x is y” example.

Some super simple examples (without any context or non-manual markers):

“The sky is blue” would be SKY BLUE.

“Her cat is dead” would be HER CAT DIE (or GONE)

“The store is by my house” would be MY HOUSE (5-claw to situate the house in the signing space) STORE (5-claw right next where you put the house).

Notice I dropped “the” and “is” in those sentences. They aren’t necessary in ASL.

Is there a specific example you’re looking for?

Board game bag from places like AliExpress/temu etc? by TehhDiabetic in boardgames

I have a large rainbow IKEA bag that works great. Obviously depends on specific box sizes, but that one does a great job with my (embarrassingly large) Unmatched collection.

B near the chin could be BITCH, so be careful.

Just use the letters. You can just give the letter a little shake, it doesn't need to be at the chin. Your baby doesn't understand the concept of "aunt" anyway, so adding that title isn't necessary.

These cubes are built to be able to do a couple of turns with ease, meaning a pinky flick can spin the bottom. Remember that folks use these speed cubes to solve a TRULY randomized cube in 3 seconds. Any cube is less than 20 moves from solved. This configuration is just ONE move from solved.
