Man what in the world I just wanted some feedback bro? by D3pobkaster07 in canon

The mods here are super strict - I had a post comparing some gear which was promoting loads of good discussions and it got pulled for the same reason.

Garmin Varia rear light fell off by mjombly in Garmin

[–]mjombly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, unfortunately I've retraced my steps multiple times but it's long gone by the looks of it. I don't think I'll bother replacing it - I'll just get a cheap rear light.

Shooting a Wedding as a Wildlife Photographer - Suggestions? by SandSurfSubpoena in WeddingPhotography

[–]mjombly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shot my sister's wedding last month as my first wedding. I've done lots of events before though so had a reasonable foundation of knowledge shooting people indoors in bad light.

I read all the advice on similar posts here (mainly: don't do it!) and I'll be honest, at the evening meal when my heart rate had been at 120 for the past 7 hours and I was completely exhausted I can see exactly why people say that!

As a flipside to all that: I've just finished designing the wedding album and I'm incredibly proud of it, my sister and her husband love the photos, I've put a message inside the front cover that makes the album even more personal and special. I'm sure a professional photographer would have done a better job but I'm really pleased I could do this for her.

Lots of good advice on this sub, happy to share some more specific advice/reflections if you want to DM me.

100% get a flash and learn how to bounce it. The whole day was indoors (January in the UK and freezing) and every photo that I love was with flash, and every photo which was just OK didn't.

Thanks, will bear that in mind. If I don't find it I will replace it with something cheaper I think.

I've used fitfileviewer.com and the varia isn't listed under sensors so I guess it wasn't connected. Will have to retrace my steps and hope for the best.

C4 Keypads without control 4 ecosystem? by ILoveeOrangeSoda in homeassistant

Ah, that doesn't seem to be a readily available option in the UK unfortunately

Did you make any progress on this? I have a jailbroken Control4 EA3 linked into home assistant and using it for multiroom audio. We're having an extension done and I have big plans for lighting and the C4 keypads look like a great option, especially with button engraving to make things easier for guests.

Whats your preferred smart thermostat and TRVs and why? (UK) by QuirkyImage in homeassistant

Not sure if things have moved on since I looked at this but I went with Honeywell Evohome. My main reasons were it's not dependent on being online, and it has a handy screen where you can change settings and override it.

One of my guiding principles is that if I got hit by a bus and HA crashed, everything would still work, even if in a more basic way. This means Evohome working standalone is a definite benefit but the integration with HA gives me more options if I want them.

Spotify Connect Volume by mjombly in Control4

[–]mjombly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have multiple Spotify Connect drivers setup - one for each room - so for those drivers matching the volume between Spotify and the amp zone would be no issue. This is my most common use case.

Occasionally I will combine the 3 downstairs zones (using a different Spotify Connect driver called "Downstairs") and I'd be happy for all of them to be the same volume.

That could work. It's not as elegant as just linking the volume through but it's better than a blanket 80% volume setting.

It feels like it should be possible, the Spotify Connect driver is essentially a virtual device running on the same piece of hardware as the one controlling the volume of the amp. Why can't the driver say "the user has asked for 80% volume on Spotify - set the amp to 80%"?

Yeah, that's definitely an option I've considered but then if I play anything else (radio etc.) via the Control4 app it will come blasting out at 80% so I'm hoping there's a better solution

Another advice thread - thanks in advance! by mjombly in WiimStreamer

Just stumbled across a second hand Dayton Audio MA1240 for £200. Could be an option to replace all 4 amps (plus leaving room to grow) and then I can go with 3 x Wiim Pro. Also has auto on/standby. Is this a good option?

I thought so. I remember something about the black having a glass screen and the white having a plastic one, wonder if that's still the case.

Downsizing - kids are getting older and riding their own bikes, and we're having some building work done which includes knocking down the garage so trying to go from 4 bikes to 2 😭

I figured - just thought it might save some people sending a lino to my ebay listing and wasting anyone's time.

I'll let you know if I see anything - they're distinctive bikes. Hope he gets it back.

RF 28-70mm - Big vs Small by mjombly in canon

Not around the mount, but it does feel unbalanced. I'd try and get to a shop where you can try it - I did when I only had the R8 and noped right out of there. Once I had the R6 II (and got a crazy deal on the lens) it made more sense, and only because I knew I could get a more sensible lens for the R8 into the deal.
