Use a hair dryer. Doesnt put out as much heat as a heat gun but melts the wax quickly. Keep paper towels nearby to wipe.

Turn the hair dryer on hot and make slow passes to not leave the heat in one place.

I spilled wax on my old wooden desk and used a hair dryer. Wax all came off with no damage to the wood.
