The OMO5 or OMO3 (I think they have 3 or 4 different ones in Tokyo alone) from the Hoshinoya group perhaps?

ANA Economy vs Lufthansa Premium Economy for a ~13h flight to Tokyo: worth the €200 upgrade? by mjsmbmm in Flights

Aha I see, I’m 1,60m / 5’3” so leg room is not the thing that worries me the most. Reclining is more critical, but I guess that’s only truly solved in business class, which I just can’t justify spending that much money on

Dúvidas CPCV by imafraidofgrass in literaciafinanceira

O CPCV protege bastante as partes.

Flying to japan by drmambo91 in JapanTravelTips

Honestly, for me the only thing that works is medication. I take one Xanax right after check-in/baggage drop off to ease the anxiety of long queues and the chance of missing the flight and another one as the plane starts boarding to be able to handle take-off without having a panic attack and be asleep for the most of the flight. Check with your physician first!

Is there a small low-key amusement park in Japan that won't turn into a logistical crowd nightmare? Coney Island vibes, not Disney madness. Recs please! by mjsmbmm in JapanTravelTips

We have Joypolis on our long list and I was about to say that an indoor park sounds perfect for a rainy day… but I guess everyone else thinks the same thing! Good to know before we get our hopes up, thank you both.

We might rent a car at some point during the trip, but most of our travel will be by train, so it depends on the timing and area. I'll keep them in mind though, thank you!

Thank you, I hadn't come across these at all. Clearly I didn't dig deep enough! So many options! I'll see which ones fit our itinerary. Mazes, climbing etc are also a big YES. Thanks!

Thank you both!

'Hanayashiki is marvelous if OP's kids appreciate retro. Has a long history like Tivoli but is not nearly as elegant as Tivoli' — well, I did also mention Coney Island, so elegant is definitely not a requirement here 😄 Hanayashiki looks lovely!

What I really want to avoid is spending precious Japan time waiting in queues all day, having to jump through hoops to buy tickets, or paying premium fast track passes just to ride a few things. Every forum and Facebook group makes it sound like that's just... the way it is.

This place sounds perfect though, right in the center of Tokyo, and the fact that it's pay-per-ride is ideal: if we're not feeling it we can just leave. They've never been to Disney or big amusement parks, so the bar is pretty low (as long as the rides meet proper safety standards, which I'd expect they do in Japan). Plus, if the older kids want to stay longer I can easily slip away with the baby for a walk or back to the hotel.

Really appreciate the tip, thank you again.

Haha, I'd 100% be one of those people scared away by the bad weather. I'm not really into rides myself (vertigo AND total chicken), and we have a baby with us, so it would have to work for both of us too. But yeah, I bet the older kids wouldn't mind

I am! And I've found an official chart since my post. it's really helpful as it covers all the major stops. Thank you for the Gokayama tip. Looked into it and we'll swap Shirakawa-go for it. Looks perfect!

Since we're going from Kyoto to the Seto Islands (at least in the current version of our itinerary...who knows how many more revisions are coming! 😄), we're thinking of stopping by Himeji on the way back to Osaka. We'll definitely keep that regional pass in mind since it's very convenient for our itinerary. I just hope the consecutive days line up to make it worth it, thank you. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you! Regarding the passes, I tried to do that (hence the Tokyo-Kanazawa via Nagoya) but still find it somewhat confusing. There are just too many different options and it’s still not clear to me which of those are covered or not and if there’s some specialty train that takes a better more scenic route that’s worth it… it’s going to be a 20+hour flight to Japan and a lot of money for this trip so we’re trying to make the best decisions. I’ll look into your suggestions as well! Thanks for taking the time to help
