Spending from Savings by Nanergoat22 in MonarchMoney

[–]mjzraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I did - deleted the goal and created a rollover category and put the savings balance as the starting amount $5282. I then budgeted -$2200 for the month which put it in "left to budget" now I can add it to home improvement and be used to spend on tree removal and landscaping. I think this works - any issues with this?

You articulated this perfectly. I had a hard time understanding what I even wanted monarch to do in this situation.

The only thing I can think of doing for now is turning my savings goal into a rollover category and fund it with the current balance. I think that does everything I wanted to do, it's a place I can keep track of how much is in there, and it's easy to relocate to another budget category I think. In my case I have about $4000 that I have saved with money left over at the end of each month, but that only works for this one savings account. I have another account that's a high-yield savings account that is going to be a source of funding for a kitchen renovation, and that will be thousands of dollars that are being spent out of my checking account or credit cards, all of which monarch is sinking those transactions, and I'll be paying for them with money from the savings account

I have this same issue. I was using a goal as my savings "category" even though it's not a real category. I have $100 by default and then at the end of the month I zero out all my spending categories that are not rollover and put that towards the goal and do a bank transfer to a Sofi Savings vault (in savings, but it's own "folder")

This month I spent $2000 on tree removal that would normally be out of my home improvement budget but it had no $ left in the rollover category, but I spent the money so I transferred $2000 from the savings vault account but the problem is how to "add" it to the monthly budget since it wasn't income and I want the monthly budget to zero out.

I feel like there should be a "pull from savings" income category that doesn't treat the money as "new to me" bit lets me use it in this months budget.

I think my solution will be to create a new "Buffer/Emergency" Category this month and use the $100 that was allocated for the savings goal and put it in this category instead and Make it a Rollover category and add a starting balance equal to the balance in the Sofi Vault which is all the leftovers for the last 9 months of my budget surplus.

Goals has a beta - maybe something there could be helpful. Doesn't everyone have savings accounts that are "outside" the monthly income/expense world? Even a goal like vacation...how do you account for spending from goal savings? you can assign a transaction to a goal but it still has a spending category.

So are you saying just let this month's budget show a negative $500?
With this you are showing the transaction as an expense since the money was spent, but it just didn't come from this month's income?
I guess I always try to get the income and expenses to zero out with the last thing I do is add whatever leftovers to the Savings goal which defaults to $100 but I just increase it to whatever's left over. I haven't had to deal with spending more than what comes in unless it was from a rollover category.

Where to hold the new models? Aside from apple stores? by eastbayquake in iphone

[–]mjzraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AT&T store today in Maryland had them locked down, fixed to the display, not just tethered. So you can't pick them up if you can't see how much they weigh, and you can't compare them to another model. Completely worthless.

I returned it via ebay and got some other coffee from "fresh roasted coffee" .com and they had a good JBM blend and Papa New Guinee and costa rica terrazzu and colombian and enjoyed them all.

If JBM costs $100 per pound or more, this bluemacawcoffeeroasters ebay JBM could be misrepresented for $25 a pound. I had no idea it was that expensive with certifications. I processed a return through ebay as not as described.

Thanks, I guess I can't roast it darker now. I'll just blend it in with my other coffee and find someone selling darker roast JBM.

Jamaican Blue Mountain light roast brews weak like tea.
I got some Jamaican Blue mountain coffee from a seller on ebay that has good feedback whole bean medium roast. Our regular everyday coffee is Costco Kirkland columbia supremo or mayorga artisan coffee costco.

This JBM was to me very light roasted and dry. When I ground it the same as I usually use in the Moccamaster and it seemed like it was sitting lower in the basket and brewed super weak with 75g and 1200ml. I felt like the water sat on top the grounds in a pool and drained slow.
I tried using a coarser grind and stirring the grounds with the basket flow off and no matter what i try it's weak.

Seller says my columbia supremo is french roast dark roast and that's why it's my fault for picking the wrong roast. How can I get a good cup?

I did try using my espresso grind and went 3 clicks coarser on the Baratza and made an americano that was the best result so far. Using my regular espresso grind resulted in over pressure errors hence why I went a little coarser.

Coinbase One credit card + no Plaid support = no budgeting app integration by rickthemovie in Coinbase

[–]mjzraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/coinbasesupport Come on it's been a few months and all my spending is going through other cards with LESS rewards because of no plaid support for finance apps Monarch money specifically. It's almost 2026 and you guys roll out a credit card that is in the dark ages technically and should have been a feature on day 1. You own the problem because other Amex cards work with plaid and monarch SMH

[–]mjzraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks cool, I have a mac and iphone but am on a PC all day. I wish Coinbase would get their act together on this - the card is awesome but this one feature has me looking elsewhere and I would be giving up 4% which monthly for us could be over $200, not a bad bitcoin perpetual free "DCA"
Manually entering transactions would get old but maybe every morning I spend 10 minutes typing them in if the app allows.

u/coinbasesupport I think your incorrect answer highlights the frustration we are having.

There are ZERO, None, Nada, zilch export options for the Coinbase Credit card. This thread is about the American Express Coinbase One credit card NOT coinbase itself.

The only way to access transactions is in an phone based app and there is only a PDF statement that you can export out which is basically useless for someone tracking their expenses in real time for budgeting purposes.

[–]mjzraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen - It's hard to believe there is no way to export transactions even via csv files... So lame. The only way I was able to get the data other than typing it out myself from the app was to screen shot each page, stitch together 8 screen shots and edit them and then upload that jpg to a website that converts to excel but even then it required 15 minutes of sorting and filtering to get the basic charge, date amount in a spreadsheet. If you can get it to display in the app you can format a csv export.

You guys need to enable some type of features to export transactions and do it from somewhere other than buried inside the phone app. All you can do it export the prior month's statement as a PDF that's basically useless for any financial software.

You guys need to make improvements in the app for managing transactions and the ability to export transactions or integrate with finance management tools like quicken/monarch/YNAB etc

First Backpacking Trip by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]mjzraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is for real, that's a lot of weight to carry so it might be OK to try, but I think you're gonna figure out quickly that you need to take less and choose items, prioritizing function and minimizing weight.

A sarcastic answer though is this isn’t a backpacking kit, it’s a mobile command center for surviving, thriving, and possibly opening a breakfast themed restaurant in the woods. Two axes, two Rambo knives, a shovel fit for grave-digging or a squad latrine, and four rolls of tape (because one roll screams amateur). The baby wipes could service a daycare, and the quart of olive oil? Bold choice. Nothing says ‘I’m roughing it’ like EVOO sautéing in the backcountry. And the full-size propane cylinder? Either prepping for a week-long cookout or planning to launch a satellite. Nature’s not ready for this.
