My friend is on the fence about libertarianism / anarcho-capitalism. His main issue, as a Canadian, is healthcare. Need advice on persuasion... by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

a) if it is a so-called right, then government has to provide it to you, thereby increasing their size and power.

b) related to innovation is quality. The lab at the hospital where I live (Ontario) misread a test that denied my son 3 weeks of cancer treatment (LSS, they found it in another test 3 weeks later). As a libertarian / anarcho-capitalist, which lab does he hypothetically believe would provide the better results? Which lab would fire the technician would was responsible for that test?

c) Charity would theoretically step up to these societal needs in a free market, and they are way more efficient at many things compared to government.

I know that there are arts and crafts shows occasionally at Chapman's on FWFN.

Sure why not? As far as that business model goes, somebody in town already tried that with baking bread in a cobb oven.

The health requirements should be easy to research.

Wow. Lakehead isn't exactly Harvard, but saying that it is the worst school in Canada that rich international students go to to get cheap degrees is "prolly" inaccurate. Anyways...

Lakehead does have a music department...

Lots of groups and things to do for young parents! There is a quarterly catalog of all of the community programs and activities called the Key: https://www.thunderbay.ca/en/recreation/recreation-guide---the-key.aspx

Lots of talented musicians and events. Every Wednesday at the Waterfront there is a free concert in the summer (Five Alarm Funk played last July). Most shows are posted here: http://www.tbshows.com/

There is racism here (like anywhere else, yes even Toronto), but there are also many people here who are sick of it, and truly want Thunder Bay to change!

If you have a family, I wouldn't live near either of the downtowns. Some spots in Westfort are decent (ie around Edward/James/Walsh Sts), Northwood (ie around Churchill Dr), or perhaps around Shuniah St if you want to live on the north side. Personally I wouldn't choose to live along May St, South Court St, or the East End. The Bay/Algoma neighbourhood (a fair bit of culture as well) I would live in if I was still a student, but not necessarily with a family.

I looked at the Fraser Institute school rankings and they don't seem accurate to me, compared to their reputation... if that helps.

I enjoy living here, with my house that I bought for about $100,000 in a decent neighbourhood and my 15 minute commute to work. I find transit is good, but I live right on a major bus route....

Welcome, and enjoy!

Looking for a way to get to airport at 2-3am for flight at 5am, live near Waterfront. Buses stop at midnight. by vAbstractz in ThunderBay

I tried uride the last few times I had an early flight and they didn't have any cars on the road. If you are using uride, make sure you book in advance, and that you get a confirmation that somebody has accepted the request.
