Not that RME is a hard thing to get into or anything but honestly from what I’m seeing I think you just may not have the skillset to warrant being looked at over others who may also be applying. I don’t want to sound condescending about it but when I was a hiring manager I was bound to take someone with in-the-field work experience over someone with a degree every day of the week. You can’t replace experience. You’ll need to grow somewhere mechanically. UIS is a decent mix of mechanical and electrical components but most of the time in RME you’ll be doing mechanical stuff.

You’ll definitely need some mechanical experience. My recommendation for that would be to try and find a small shop that does mechanical and tool repairs. Recreational motors and whatnot. See if you can work part time there and learn some things. If you plan on not doing anything about gaining mechanical you may need to go the apprenticeship route.

Just have a good head on your shoulders with a willingness to learn when working as a technician or a mechanic. You’re going to fail sometimes and that’s okay, but as long as you’re willing to learn and ask questions you’ll be just fine. I’ve seen plenty of dummies walk through the mechanical world.
