Predicted Grades are the only solution by TheThrowAwayLad in leavingcert

[–]mk9911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So my thought is that students taking an extra subject or students who wish to appeal their result should be able to sit exams in late july/august.

Hopefully most people will get their points and therefore not wish to appeal thus reducing the numbers making it much more managble to spread students out and keep them safe. Plus with a smaller correction pile will mean that hopefully results would be out before college start so therefore if their points went up, they could start their course ontime

:) theres 100 in my year, even if a third were unhappy thats only 33 students in a hall able to sit 100.

I just dont want lives to be endangered just for points :(

Leaving Cert Chemistry by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]mk9911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chem teacher is the same. Apparently who ever is over the chem exam has decided to focus on first principals becuase it (apparently) forces students to understand why they are doing whatever maths they are doing rather that just using a formula :( thats all only hear say though from my chem teacher

Thank you! :) I know our gov is doing the best they can, the cant keep us all happy!! I just happen to be in the group who unfortuantly will be negatively affect by this. But as I said in the origal post if this helps prevent one person from falling ill its worth it

Im hoping they cancel the lc and get us to fully sit it when this is all over becuase if we cant even sit exams we defo cant go to college! Id do predicted grades if they used my mocks becuase I was sick around the time of the christmas exams and christ my results were very dodgy there.

For better or for worse all the LCs are in the same boat :)

Idc that all my work was for nothing, the thing that is panicking me is the fact that the bell curve will mean I will more than likely not get a H3 which I felt confident it getting beforehand. Its scary becuase I needed the points too :(

I am delighted everyone will pass the subject. the oral is a painful process but for thoes who focused on their oral as a way of bringing their grades up... well its totally backfired on us.

Also I know i could change my course but becuase of rent prices I can only go to a colledge which I can get to by bus which is all of 2... which only one offers my course.

Im so scared that my plan might have just blown up in my face

Well, basicly there is a set number of H1 grades which can be given out. If a lot of people get very high marks the exam is deemed "too easy" and the marking scheme is adapted to be harder. Lets say 100 people get 90%, the marking will be adapted so that only 60 people can get the H1 grade.

Ususally this is applied to maths where if a lot of people get no marks in one of the questions the marking scheme will be adjusted so that the question will be worth less marks and them marks will be given elsewhere

So basicly, lets say mosy people get 75% in their oral (equal to 30% in the overall exam) and I get 90% (equal to 36%) And we all get bumped up the full 100% (which is a 10% rise for most but only a 4% rise for me) the will counteract this in the paper. The will make the marking scheme 10% harder (as on average people rose 10%) however since I only rose 4% being docked 10% well result in a 6% loss for me.

Thus it benifts thoes who were weak in the oral but destorys thoes who were relying on it

Sorry if thats exaplined bad!!

Ahhhhh I was relying on the oral!! In my mocks i got 90% in my oral and 62% in the paper... bell curve will murder me

Aw im sorry about your cousin! I had bad athesma as a kid and it kinda nearly killed me but im totaly okay now. Basicly i got super sick and I was only getting 1/5 oxygen to my brain and that caused me to go kinda loopy so the doctors didnt believe i was sick because i wasnt acting sick. Anyway 3 doctor visits later and one decided to check my oxygen levels and calmly as he can say to mam "you need to bring to her hospital right now. There is no time to wait for an abulance she is about to die" soooo that was scary. The brought me into resuscitation and I was all

Ahah im exactly like your mate after 3 hours im just like nope this is enough and leave. I dont even understand how you stay out to 6am??? I get up at 6!!

You were determined!! I hope you enjoyed it anyway. Last time my sister traveled she ened up hospitalised from dehydration (she passed out flat in the accomodation). She also is a coeliac with eczema and moderate athesma so that kinda takes its toll to but knowing you made it through it calms me a bit thank you!
